Default '93 Accord Tranny/fuel pump question

Hi,

I recently purchased a SE 4door auto accord with 350k miles on it (for a little too much but that is another story).

It drove fine for about 350 miles then it began loosing power on the road. The rpms would not jump and I would hear a minor whistling while pressing on the gas. It would move at about 5 MPH. So after letting it sit for 15 minutes it returned to normal and I was able to get it home.

I brought it to the nearest mechanic and he says it is the fuel pump. After doing a little research online it looks like I should check the relay first.

I guess my question is does this sound right to you experts and is it worth me putting in a little more work myself before paying someone else? I am strongly considering doing some of my own work which I have never really done before.

Sorry if this was long winded and thanks in advance for your time and suggestions

-A

Any stored codes? Was the D4 light flashing or the CEL on when it was acting up?

If you put it in neutral or park, does the engine rev fine?

You just got the car so I would also rule out the normal maint items (you need to set a baseline anyway. So, cap, rotor, test wires, plugs, filters, trans fluid, ect.......

I wouldn't, the person/ dealership who sold it to him may have told him they replaced them but still might not have, i know alot of the dealerships around here just make sure the car drive fine for 5 min and looks good then puts it on the lot

to the op, I would check everything fuel and spark related , pump, sending unit, fuel filter, spark plugs, cap rotor, wires, even grounds, main relay, also is the whistling coming from the front or rear of the car?

That was meant as the OP needs to set the baseline and replace/inspect those items. That way THEY CAN BE ruled out.
