a had a ebay turbo kit, only problem i found was that, its not bolt on like it says it will be. pipes need to cut to fit, its more of a generic fit. you need a oil restrictor for turbo.

some people dog on the kit but its decent for the price just gotta mod it alittle, i dont mind

If I got an ebay kit.. and keep in mind i wouldn't unless I was runninga real POS car that didn't justify thousands on a kit. right now i drive a nice, newer car with < 30k miles on it, so i didn't mind spending a few grand on my kit. but, if i was going to cheap out..

ebay kit

sell the turbo and buy a decent one so i'm not replacing them every few months like people do

take the manifold (if "tubular") and have the welds redone - if cast, leave it alone

upgrade hardware (oil lines, vac lines)

the kit would still be pretty cheap, and much safer/reliable.

and the reason i say i'd upgrade the lines is because my buddies ek melted an ebay oil line and started a fire in his car a few years back, so i've learned that some things aren't to be cheaped on

see sig.

eBay kits are sometimes hit or miss. It also highly depends on the installation. I consider myself to be highly skilled in the automotive tuning field and had absolutely no problems with the installation, tuning and longevity of the kit. The only small problem that I had come to find was that the wastegate developed a small leak past the valve seat at idle.

You'd probably end up spending less money if you just pieced it together, even if you used eBay parts. I bought a "universal" kit, when I was first entertaining the idea of boost. Ended up selling a bunch of junk out of the kit that I didn't need/wasn't going to use. Even after selling and getting some money back, I could have saved about $200 if I had just done all my research first and ordered each part separately. Still, I'm only $1500 in for a complete setup, including supporting fuel mods, a chipped ECU, and a tune. As far as quality...it's a hit or miss really, but either way do not expect it to last forever. It could last 30k miles, or it could last 30 miles, you never know with that stuff. For me it was more of the little stuff that irritated me, more than big issues. Like missing bolts, missing lines, cross-threaded stuff, downpipe holes in turbo not having threads in them, etc...Just make sure you get supporting mods, use an oil restrictor, keep the boost moderate and hope for the best.

i think the thing is it was cheap kits and they werent using restrictors so the turbos were failing, hence the bad rep.

use a restrictor and it should last longer
