HI guys. 89 civic here,
-The car runs fine and the suddenly dies after it heats up to about midway on the temp, but doesnt go above midway.
-The car will not start until the engine has cooled down
-I noticed the fans never kick on, its as if it shuts down right as they should come on
-Thought it was the ignition coil at first, replaced that
-The check engine light comes on as the this happens and the car dies
Ant ides guys? thanks suggestions are greatly appreciated. i have voltmeter and all the tools

 

Get a new engine. You've pretty much killed this one with the constant overheating.

If you read my post, i never said it overheated. It shuts down before the fan kicks on, never did the temp go above midway...btw there is a forum for 1992-2000 civics and pre 1988 civics, where do you want me to put it?

 

Chances are that if it's shutting off then it's overheating. If it only starts again after it's cooled down then it has overheated.

Also you might want to try pulling a code from that CEL.
