ABS light comes on after moving forward in 1st gear
1996 LS
There is no code to read before the car starts. There is no light when the car is idling. The light comes on when starting and goes out a few seconds later like it should.
The ABS light comes on after I start moving forward in first gear. If I start the car and drive in reverse, everything is OK until I want to go forward.
Last summer I bought another used ABS pump to try and fix this problem. Nope.
After the car sat for a few months (for other reasons) my brake pedal went soft. I replaced the brake master cylinder with a rebuilt unit and bled brakes with all new fluid.
I cleaned all four of the ABS wheel sensors using these two threads (wow the rears are a PITA):

I did the fronts yesterday and the rears today. I went for a test ride and the ABS light came on as soon as I took off in first gear.
The light stays on as long as the car is running. What else can I do?

emergency brake is another issue. the lever pulls up a bit far, and i have the nut cranked down as far as it will go. i need to swap the lever handle out. i swapped my whole interior from tan to black and that's the last piece to change. what's the deal with those cables? can i shorten them back at the calipers?
I can't tell if you do not know the paperclip trick, or if it is not working.

1) Place paper clip into passenger kick panel jumper
2) Turn ignition to run position, but do not start the car
3) Read the ABS, SRS, and CEL for codes.
The ABS should have stored codes. The FAQ should have a link to those codes.

There are two connectors. The one with only two wires is the right one. Maybe you haven't made good contact, or the wires have loose connections. If done right, the ABS light should come on initially, then blink the code.
I had sort of a similar issue. Do you experience any issues while driving with the abs light on?
Mine ended up causing my rear driver side brake caliper to seize up.
Bought all new calipers, and rotors for all around to make sure it doesnt happen again.

i have read codes by jumping the service connector before. i'm not lying to you guys, i promise.
i'll try again when the rain breaks, but i tried to read codes last summer, too (and now again this morning).
