opinions on ecsta V700
Ive been really wanting to autoX again because going in a straight line is starting to lose its appeal again. I recently installed a turbo on my car and before next time i autoX i want to throw on some pretty wide tires on my car because at previous autoX tires were DEFINATELY my weak link (ecsta 711
).
Ive been looking at the ecsta V700 in 235/45-13 mounted on 4 13x8 steelies from diamondracingwheels.com has anyone in here had similar setups and have had good experiences from it?
Thanks for any help.
And yes, i did run a search before i posted

I run 235/45/13 V700s on my car. I'm thinking of switching to the Victoracers because the V700s seem to wear out faster then they should. I haven't tried both but I think I soon will. It's strange I have been through two sets and the first set corded and the rubber was still sticky, and the second set got rock hard well before the cord. However the forst set was heat cycled properly and the second set was not so mayby there really is something to proper heat cycling.
Both sets only lasted 60-70 each. I have heard stories of people getting much more runs out of Kumhos.

I run 225/50/15 and am very happy with my v700.
Compared to the Toyo Proxes RA-1, they grip better and do not wear out as quick. But the Toyo's handle better.

Unfortunately the Victoracers do not come in a very good 13" size (205/60 I think).
I've used both on my ITR and I have to say I'm really disappointed with the ecstas. They provide the same grip as the V700's and the favourable gearing helps (45 vs 50 profile) but I had the tread separate from the carcass at the shoulder on 3 of 4 tires with 50% tread left. My V700's never did that so I'm going back to them.

I don't like the Ecstas either, at least not as much as my old Victoracers of which I 've had several sets before. I 'm going back to the old Victors.
judging by your post it sounds like you've been auto-x'ing once so i'd say worry more about the driver, not the tires.. you'd be suprised how much time you can knock off by practicing before you step up to an r-comp.
to answer your question tho, i love my ecsta v700's and they're only 195's. i'm sure any set of r-comps will have you wetting yourself the first few times out! =P

I think by now the compound is the same as the old Victoracers, so if you order them, that probably what you'll get. They were phasing it in, if I remember correctly. If people still talk about the Ecsta wearing fast after that, it's all in their heads at that point. I use the ecsta v700, and only have the stock tires to compare them to. Makes the stock's feel like those hard plastic Tonka truck tires on kids toys...
i autoX'd when i my motor was almost stock at 3 or 4 different events, i had a lot of fun, i know my driving skills probably have room for improvement, but still ive driven on several different tires and these 711's are horrible in my opinion.
What class would a 6 puck clutch and a turbo put me in?

you'll be in street mod. you will need r-comps or slicks to be competitive in that class but jumping to those tires too early will result in bad driving habits.. they're way too forgiving and you'll never get rid of bad driving techniques because the r-comps take SO much before they break loose.. just my experience tho, do your thang.
Hey Tyson (solorex),
Geratol has the almost perfect low buck setup for wheels, don't knock them till you seen them. I would also be careful about purchasing the remaining stock of Kumho Ecsta V700's, it is my understanding they are realasing a new compound in the up comming year. Will know more after SEMA in November.

I thought the "new compound" was already released some time during the summer? Anyhow, I officialy spent the last of my tire fund on some new street tires so I won't even consider some new tires until late December.
Bret: You car is a '00 Civic Si right? You might have trouble finding some 13s that will clear your brake calipers. I'll be up at the Sac Enduro this weekend if you want to check out the 13s I'm running on (I'll only be using the 13s on Sunday because I have only 1 or 2 events worth of rubber left on them

IMO, here's a better idea. Hoosiers. The people I know, don't like the ECSTA. Pick up the new issue of Grassroots Motorsports and they prove the Hoosiers to be better than Kumhos.

Jeremy,
So you're not attending the Saturday practice?

If we have fun runs on Saturday you can drive my car and help me "brake in" my new tires.

Sorry, read the entire thread, no you are not the only "Tyson" on the planet!

lol. dont tell me Tyson K is solorex. i used to always get confused with me and him on crx perf board. with a name like tyson, you can understand why i think im the only person named tyson, but interestingly im not.

FYI, the first-batch of Ecsta V700s used the Victoracer compound. Although I kid you not, they smell different. Don't ask...
The updated compound EV700s have been phased in over the summer. I can't remember which compound is which, but the compound code is stamped on the side of the tire in the serial number. I think the options are K6A and K8A, can't remember which is which. From what I understand, they will probably continue to revise the compound a number of times over the period of the model's life.
