My USDM Type-R was $1600 from a dealer, new. For a used/rebuilt transmission, you're looking at about half that.

naw no vin or paperwork when i traded it for my ej the gears were super short !!!! but it was attached to an LS so it wasnt attached to anything worthwhile but yea so like 800 bucks to get it repaired eh ? so do i take it to a tranny shop or do i take it back to the dealership ? im not too familiar when it comes to problems with trannys let alone how to fix em

they are worth $800-1200 in good working order.

in your case you might be money ahead parting it out. the lsd will fetch $400 and you'll get $100 out of the case and working gears.

^^you really think he can get 400 for that stock viscous lsd? i picked up my wavetrac from a HT member for 450 w/ original parperwork. mabye the final drive and stock lsd for 400 450? Now that i think of it, im in need of a final drive pretty bad. I was shooting for a used aftermarket 4.9 final but nobody seems to have one. maybe part that out? But yea tranny sounds like its in pretty bad shap, a good quailty rebuild is expensive!

if you have a viscious lsd you were ripped. those were the ctr/gsr lsd's, the itr used a helical gear

usually a used itr will sell the same as a new obx

the ctr/gsr lsd will fetch 250-300 tops

that itr lsd would be helpful in a boosted ls. 300whp really benefits from an lsd. adding that to your existing ls transmission is one thought.

The LS trans is a good reliable tranny just like any other trans but is NOT best for boost. Idk its really up to you. Crack it open and take a peak around, if you need say all new sleeves, bearings, synchros (might as well go carbon) plus labor it can get very very pricey.

because since you can get aftermarket LSD's for cheap its not really worth it to get oem one... I would rather have an aftermarket lsd then a stock lsd anyday but thats just me specially when I can have it at almost the same cost and put new bearings in it and new seals

there kind of is actually. if j4d lsd has already worn off the case you can take a pic of the diff, basically aim the camera at the hole the axles plug into. i can spot the difference between an itr and gsr/ls easily. the hard ones to tell apart are gsr and ls
