Default New 99 ITA / H4 Integra

Hi,
I just purchased a 99 Integra LS classed for SCCA ITA and NASA H4. I've been in specmiata for 3 years, and this is a little new to me. I'm starting out with the simple things like what wheels/tires (size, offset, bolt pattern) should i be using?
Would appreciate any contact from anyone in this car/class for advice.

Thanks,
-jim

You are in the right place. Welcome to the roadrace/autocross forum.
For an ITA /H4 car you are going to probably run a 14" or 15" wheel (whichever you like) with a 225-45-15 (or the 275 hoosier up front. i'm not sure if any ita guys have tried it yet)
or the 225 14" from hoosier.
as far as bolt pattern and offset, 4x100 +35-45. +38 should work best for you.

Where are you from?

Pittsburgh, usually run Beaverun, Midohio, Nelsons, did summit point and watkins glen once each.

So it sounds like the wheels used for the specmiata would work, glad i sold all three sets

You are in the right place. Too bad about the Miata wheels :-x

If you're at nelson ledges I'll try and find you and say Hi... it's where we usually race.. What does your car look like? Colors? Pictures?!

Good luck!!

for honda challenge maximum tire width is 225, so 275 is out of the question. you can download the rules on the honda challenge web site. should help you out.

i am in the middle of my slow build for h2.

I believe the 1999 LS stock wheels size is 15x6 so, per ITA rules you could go to a 16x7 or 15x7. I don't know how you're going to fit a 275 Hoosier R6 on a 7" rim. A 205 Hoosier R6 is essentially the same width as a 225 Toyo. The Hoosiers just run wider.

I suspect this is so that people who are in a class where the tire is relegated to a size like "no bigger than 225" then the Hoosier gives them a clear advantage over say a Hankook C51 which is narrower in the same size.

Example: I use Kooks and R6's. My 225/45/15 Kook C51's and 205/50/15 Hoosier are the same damn width. BTW: I love both these tires.

You'll have a lot of fun racing that car. It's a great car to race with.

:mini rant:

I'm in ITA. H4 has essentially died unfortunately as most people left H4 to go run H2, which I won't do. The reason is on principle. I don't want to spend thousands of dollars more, plus extra prep, replacement and maintenance just to go race the same people at the same tracks in the same cars to only go 3-4 seconds faster? No thank you, I'll stay in ITA.

I need to make it known that I also don't live in a part of the country where NASA does not has a presence (I'm in the PacNW). I guess if I did live in a area where I liked racing my Honda with NASA then I guess I wouldn't have a choice... Swap the engine, spend the thousands of extra dollars every year or go do something else.

I have seen that video, more than once. While it does look like fun, you and I will just have to have a difference of opinion. I think that close racing is fun, not necessarily high speeds. You have some great close racing and looks like a damn good time. However, I'm doing lots of close racing in ITA in a CRX for several thousand dollars less.

http://www.vimeo.com/24144972

While your car still make more noise, more power and more speed, you're still having a close battle with 1 to 2 other cars. That's no different than what I'm doing, only 3-5 seconds per lap faster.

So I think it comes down to circumstance. If you lived up here, you would probably race with Conference and/or SCCA and if you already an H4/ITA car you most likely would NOT have changed it to fit H2 (because NASA isn't in the NW). However, if I lived and raced in Cali in H4 and everyone migrated to H2 leaving me all by my lonesome, then yes, I probably would have ponied up the dough or gone and raced in another car/class/sanctioning body.

Would you agree?

15x7 is the maximum wheel size per the ITA ruleset. 14x7 Team Dynamics ProRace 1.x, 15x7 Kosei K1 ET38 or 15x7 Enkei RPF1 ET41 would work as a good relatively inexpensive lightweight wheel. I use the Enkeis with a 5mm spacer is the rear. I would run a 225/50/14 or 225/45/15 Hoosier R6 or A6, 225/45/15 Toyo RA1 or 225/45/15 Hankook C51 or Goodyear Eagle RS.

I'd definitely try to use a 225 over a 205 for the extra heat capacity to keep the tires from fading. These cars run fairly heavy in H4 and ITA. The lighter CRXs use the same size tires, and in ITA you'll also run against Miatas that don't need a 225.

rice classic, i feel the same way. i was thinking of changing to a platform that is cheaper to run than an h2 car and has closer racing (around here). But ultimately, i stuck with my h2 car....and it blew up

Down here in SeDiv/Florida, Honda Challenge is nowhere to be found. I've stuck with ITA with 2 different cars now over the last 5+ years and never once have I wanted to move from the class. The only way I would change if the Runoffs come to Daytona.

I'm looking at the TRmotorsport wheels at Tirerack. Looks like in 15x7, they only have a 42mm offset. Would that work well, or should i look elsewhere for something with a 38 offset?

I run the TR-C1 with a 42 offset and 10mm spacer (making them 32).

I got mine from this company but you can find others on Ebay ranging from 5mm to 10mm
