Help, please, I mean if you have the time.
Hello everyone,
I purchased a 2001 Honda Civic EX about a year ago and have had no issues what-so-ever up until a few days ago. I got a CEL and a service light. When I ran the code I got a P1259 'V-tec malfunction' as I'm sure you know. There are no consistencies in the light being on. Sometimes it's there sometimes its not. It has also begun sputtering at higher RPM's, which I have read to be some sort of 'safe mode'. I have extensively searched for resolutions to this issue, even with this sites fantastical search function, but haven't found many nonsensical responses. Could anyone shed any sort of anything on as to how I fix this issue. I am not the most mechanically savvy lady and really have no idea what the V-tec sensor even looks like. If anyone can help, I would love you forever. Hope everyone is having a kick *** day.
Thanks,
Alley

First off what kinda mileage is on this thing?
Check your oil and make sure its where it needs to be. Sounds like it may be a oil pressure issue. VTEC solenoids are controlled by oil pressure, if it is malfunctioning its either something wrong with the solenoid itself or the oil pressure flowing through it. It may be somthing as simple as cleaning the screen in the solenoid gasket.

fyi... I've neglected to change my oil on a few occasions. This often caused my engine light to signal. Upon changing the oil the light turned off. I've cleaned my vtec solenoid and it's smooth sailing. Your car will only run as well as you treat it.
