Default cv boot/axle price

well I noticed a little puddle under my car the other day. couldn't figure out what it was. I was changing my rims and found the cv boot was torn. Nothing seems to be wrong with the car though, what are symtoms of this? and how much is it to replace an axle, or just the boot if that is possible, and are there aftermarket axles made, or would I have to go custom to get something better than stock. Thanks

What would happen eventually is that dirt/grime/water would get in the joint and basically cause it to wear itself apart, and eventually fail. But like he said not too expensive and not impossible to change.

I just had that all replaced on my 95. The axles were starting to rust pretty bad and the joints were loosening up. Had the whole deal done with new aftermarket axels/joints/boots (all cept boots came with lifetime warranty) for about 500. Could have waited longer but Wisconsin's salty winter roads really **** everything up.

where would I find a rebuilt axle? I've been looking and can't find it, and my friend told me that it's better if I just buy a new one. , how long do you think I can drive my car with a messed up axle?

you can pay $79 dollars to an auto parts store and get a axle that is rebuilt after being reground. I just replaced 6 axles in my car in a matter of a month and a half because of that regrind bullshit. I then went RAXLES and bought a OEM replacement w/o regrind for $120 and the problem went away. For quality axles RAXLES is one of the best deals out there.

Is your car lowered? If it is lowered more than an inch then the boots will actually rub on the splines because of the change in geometry. They will also be under more stress on the inner CV becuase of the angle. This will cause them to split or heat up and split. Or they are just old boots. All in all it is almost more efficent to buy a new axle then an aftermarket boots, especially the aftermarket split boots.
