I need help on a 93 dx hatch A/C install
SO like in my previous posts, I'm a green honr to this. So I have all the parts ( I think) to install this AC. Here are my questions:
1. My car says made in canada but title says is USDM, which should I believe?lol.
2. My climate control blows regular air and heat, do I assume that the car has an evaporator already in? It came stock no A/C.
3. Should I assume I need an A/C wiring harness and all relays?
Any help would be appreciate it.....very 1st build will take pics and show progress later.

Yea you will need alot of parts , maybe a new underdash climate box equipped for ac as well as hard lines the dryer green o rings dont use black they leak like a constipated 2 years olds diaper..lol , i would imagine the harness should be equiped to plug and play but you may have to do some wiring in the fuse block for the ac fuse and relay for the AC fan, its not too much of a pain in the touch hole but its worth it if you live were its mad hot....
Thanks, yeah I have all hard lines and drier. I have the condensor, compressor and all of those lines. So you think the evap should be there? I'm just confused with the title saying USDM and the car saying "Made in Canada". I think i need the relays for the condensor fan....and the other set of relays also. I'm at work so I cant look under my dash to see if I see any wiring.
Your car came without a/c but it came with the a/c button? If you have all the necessary equipment and hardware, it should be plug and play. I did a complete swap on my old 95 Integra RS. It was pretty straight forward. Make sure you replaced the o-rings from Honda. Also, make sure your compressor and condenser all function or else you're in a lot of trouble. After the installation, take it to a shop to have it leak tested and recharged. Should be around $50-$60 dollars. Good luck, Chuck.
you need the wiring harness from the fan assy to the R passenger fender there will be a plug that it connects to. You will also need the AC button cover from a car that had AC installed all the 92-95 came with out AC so they added a dummy plate to cover the switch. When a cust ordered AC they removed it and installed the button cover. You will have to remove the glove box and heater duct. There are a few rubber plugs in the fire wall to remove one is for the AC lines and the other is for the AC drain line. Then install the AC under dash unit. There is also a pulley that mounts to the AC compress bracket. Its been 10 years since I installed one I did find the Honda AC instal guide on line for free when I did mine. Its straight forward if you have all the parts
this is a good post for ac install

It contains the evaporator and replaces the heater duct behind the glove box. Give me a few hours I just found my printed copy of the install guide. I will scan it and post it for you. It is the honda install guide and will walk you through everything.
I will take pics of what I have under dash. That will prob help this dicussion along. I have located the front AC harness and relays. I guess al I need to confirm are the evap and its lines.
when you get to step 23 removing the bolts for the engine damper make sure the rubber mount at the frame is good I had mine fail when I moved the bracket to install the belt and needed to replace it. This mount keeps the engine from rocking to far and makes shifting hard when it is bad
The evaporators are the same if I am not mistaken but the oils used in the r12 and the 134a not the same. I am not sure if you will need to flush it out or just add the correct amount of 134a oil to the evaporator. hopefuly someone else can chime in and give you the answer
I could be completely wrong though. Someone who knows for sure should chime in.
I looked a little bit deeper into this the part numbers are diff between the 2 systems. I have never really looked at the systems side by side to coment on there dif in hard line dia. SO if you have everything from an r12 system looks like you are going to need to get the evaporator from an r12 also
If you lookup the part numbers for 92/93 vs 94/95 cars in the a/c section the part numbers are indeed different. This is due to the model changing from R12 to R134a. Also, its a known fact that a/c lines from those two different systems will not bolt up due to the fittings being different on the ends. Hence, they are not interchangeable. Wish they were, but i think going from R12 to R134a necessitated slight hardware changes in the line fittings etc.
I gathered all my 95 parts from the same car to ease my conversion (92 Hatch) later down the road.
The 92-93 evaparator WILL bolt up to the 94-95 lines but should NOT be used. As I understand things, the r12 expansion valve in the 92-93 evaparator unit will produce some cooling when used with 134, but to a lesser degree. Use a 94-95 unit and try to get everthing from a 134 car. As of this time no one can tell me for sure if the condensing unit ,[ next to the radiator], was made differently between the r12 and 134 cars. I have used both , both ways, and have not seen a big difference.
okay i started today, it will take a while since i will be installing on my spare time. My AC components are all from a 93 dx hatch, same as my hatch. The evap came from a 93 si hatch. Now I read that 92 and below, r12, 93 above 134a. The lines seem to match up. I took it to a mechanic today and he said putting this ac in was a huge job and would be like 1000k bucks.lol....why did he just not say he had no clue on how to do it.
at honda parts now I found this on evaps....for a 92 dx 3dr
