Default need info- parts compatibility- HELP

I have a 97 Slo S (D16y7). I have a friend with a 96(i believe) coupe EX. His motor has just gone to the great junkyard in the sky, and he said i could have some parts from it. 1.) if i want to change my engine to VTEC, what parts other than the cam and ecu am i gonna need, and 2.) he said that i could have his IM, will i be able to bolt that right on, and what will it take to do that, as in tubing and wires and such....

I am more worried about the IM thing right now, in the fact that I need a new air filter, and if it doesn't bolt up i am going to order one for the IM and throttle body i have right now(which i really don't want to do)

Thanks for the help

BTW- yes, i know i sound like a n00b with these q's, so flame all ya want, but someone tell me i need to know

most of the time the entire head is used to do the vtec swap (mini-me). But some B series are drilled for vtec, not sure if thats doable or not with D series.

usually its

z6 or y8 head
ecu
IM (y8 is supposidly the better one)
timing belt
headgasket
IM gasket
Exhaust gasket
etc.....
