CRX studders while accelerating & cruising
Well, as the title states my stock 1991 CRX DX is studdering while accelerating, quite badly, and once every 2-3 minutes while cruising at speed. Also, at idle, the exhaust is thudding pretty heavily, and that can be anywhere from frequent to almost never.
I've got a new cap and rotor that I'm waiting to install when I get my new spark plug wires today. I already replaced the fuel filter and it seemed to help a bit but the problem is still there.
The car isn't throwing any codes at all so I can't give any info about that.
Only thing I've done to the car so far is replace the air filter and distributor coil when it went out a month or so ago. The studdering didn't start until recently, so it might be a bad coil? Another possibilty is the fuel pump? The car has 198k miles on it and by the look of the old fuel filter I don't think it's ever been replaced lol.
I did do some searching and didn't really find anything relevant to what's happening. Any help or insight would be much appreciated!

Plugs are brand new, and I agree it could use some TLC. Replacing CV axels and valve gasket on friday. Going to check the spacing on the plugs when I do the cap and rotor today... Should I have the o2 sensor checked? Every once in awhile on start up it'll rev up to 2000 then rev again to about 1500 all on its own.
I would just change the plugs with NGK standards. Dont need those high price super split platinum fire plugs. wouldent be bad idea to check the 02 but typically you would get a cel. Do you have any check engine codes now?
It's got standard NGK's, no point in running anything else in a d15 1.5. I'm not getting any codes right now, and if it was misfiring (which is what I initially thought it was) I would be getting a code.

you can check the tps with a multimeter...if it's original i would just replace it. it also needs to be set, should be .45v at idle (you can check it with key on, engine off too). do you have a factory service manual? hondahookup.com is a good place to go

Replaced distributor cap and rotor last night, along with spark plug wires and I gapped my plugs. One of the plugs was at like 38 but the rest were around 43. Gapped em' all at 44 and the car seems to be running a **** load better. Gonna take a small trip today and see if it's still studdering, pretty sure it's fixed though. If not I'll go to the TPS next.
