Default Ruduction of Cars Weight Is Important, But ......

Alot of people, Myself included have stripped there cars down to remove weight from there cars. The point brought to me by my mechanic, that I can keep ripping parts and metal from the car to reduce the weight. But As he keeps pointing out, A healthy diet can help trim some weight from the driver.

Well After taking that advice, I have a goal to loose 50 lbs not from the car, but from the driver. I want to get from 250 lbs down to at least 200 lbs. Working with an online company has reduced me to sitting behind a computer 8 hours a day or more.

Solution, I broke the bicycle from the garage and dusted it off. And lets just say after 10 miles on that damn thing, I am exhausted. I want to do 5-10 miles each day, and I should be down to my goal weight by next season or sooner.

Advice to some others out there, look at your back end, before breakin out the tools and rippin parts from the car. Not only will it help your E/Ts but will help your over all health as well.

i think it is a valid point some people forget.

and then they remove their bumper supports which weigh ~15lbs each
and they talk about how much those things weigh!

I wish it was a joke, I see people that show up with cars stripped to the bone, but are bigger than me. Im no blob, Im 6 feet even, and 250 lbs. But I see people that make me look thin in cars that are stripped to the metal inside.

And it is a valid point, some people need to look in the mirror, and begin to say that weight reduction in a car is important, but trimming 50 lbs from the driver might not be a bad Idea.

I drink, smoke, eat alot, and sit behind a computer 8-10 hours a day as part of my job, yes I drink to make my job easier lol, you would to in a customer support job. That part is a joke, I dont drink at all.

Also this post was a wake up call for myself and was sharing with the community. I think that I am on the right track to better health, and lower ETs. It is often overlooked and if someone else out there can use my thoughts, then I encourage them to try it.

Finally, Why is it you got to be so negative all the time. If you dont have anything positive to say in my post then dont post a reply at all. You seem to get off on pissen in my oatmeal. Stop allready go find a new hobby and let us have our opinions.

Hey man I'm with you. Boost guys don't need to worry about weight as much but they should. Anyone who knows about all motor racing knows weight is a time killer. I have been working on getting weight out of my 1st gen crx lately. CF hood-no interior except dash, full lexan hatch, lexan sunroof and 13 lb battery. AFter doing all that I looked at my weight... I just got married and got a desk job and it kills you. I have 30 lbs to loose to get back to my single weight and that is the current project. I lost 4 lbs last week.

Just remember they two main factors in making your car faster is:

1. More power
2. Less weight

Yes this post makes sense! P.S. My car weighs 1980 lbs with me in it.

I lost about 30 lbs in two months from a low carb diet (aka Atkins Diet). Down from 250 to 220.

I've been off the diet for a couple months, and I've gained back 5 lbs. The only reason I went off, was because it was summer, and I wanted to be out and about and not have to worry about what I eat or drink (plus, it was the season for drinking beer. )

You feel great while you're on the diet. You have tons of energy and confidence. Now that I'm off the diet, I've lost the energy, and confidence.

Anyways. I strongly suggest it. It's really not that difficult at all. You just eat mostly meat, and some vegetables, drink lots of water, and have your daily vitamins. You will be more successful if you exercise at the same time, but I didn't, and I did fine.

I have a natural advantage at 130 lbs. But honestly, if people are ripping out parts of their car that only weigh a few pounds to save weight, why not just take the pounds off yourself.

I agree, it's no joke, and it is important. How much would *you* pay to remove 20lbs from your car? $500 for a carbon hood? 20lb?... $500??? Come on, a diet *is* part of the vehicle equation, like it or not. A pound is a pound regardless where it comes from, so why is the driver's weight not to be discussed? I've seen tons (ugg) of heavy drivers, and I wonder how many 1/10's they missed out on.

But that's just me. Guess it's easier to spend money than diet, but the skinny guy will always beat you.

Yep, us boost guys need to add the lb's to keep the the tires from spinning, JK. I think this is a good post. Fact is, i think it's a wake up call for me too. I'm not a big guy either 6' 230, but i wouldn't mind losing body(mine) wieght vs. making the car less safe by removing the bumper and other parts.

As I sit here searching the net in an attempt to find a way to cut 5 more pounds out of my ride, I look at the chocolate coated peanuts that I'm eating and the Coke that I'm drinking and think ......Hmmmmmmmm

That's it!!!!! You have motivated me to loose 20 lbs in the next month (or so)
It's coming into summer and I want to get out a bit more anyway so I think some running/cycling and swimming might be in order hehehe

My Left Leg weighs 110 Lbs.

Oct 3rd is my birthday, I just realized that and the fact of weight of 250 lbs. It is a early mid life mini crisis at the age of 34. I had some soul searching and look at my health. I now ride my bike about 5 miles a day til I can do more.

I also came back to a goal on my car as well. I realize that nobody makes performance stuff for an 85 Prelude. I paid $200 for the car, I have a goal to be in the 10 sec area on the 8th. No big challenge, but I want to stay below $1,000 total investment including the car. So far I am running 11.4s and will work towards reducing the times. I will be junk yard shopper from hell, and will not change the engine. It will stay as it is til it blows.

When the car dies it gets crushed and that will be the end of my imprt drags.

finally a practical post that really hits home to the all motor crowd....

i mean i know people that do all kinds of wild things to reduce the weight of their car and something as easy as losing 20-50lbs is just a beneficial as the CF hood or having a bare interior.

props to Merlin for discussing a problem thats right in front of most of us.....our stomach

Speaking of weight I just bought a Dyna-Batt batery today. It weighs 13lbs and has enough power to crank a 15.1 comp motor cold. Most batteries weigh 30-35 lbs. Also you can lay the battery on it's side with no problems since it's dry cell. 20 lbs for $160 is pretty good when you start running out of things to remove or replace. I also bought a scale for my weight.

CRX- 1960lbs with me in it and counting...

Going off topic, but this is a good battery/weight discussion.

True, but for any sort of endurance events it really takes it out of you also... being in shape helps you deal with this. Even after a day of drag racing I'm tired! AutoXing leaves me completely bagged; I can only imagine how tired I'd be after Solo I.
