Where do you guys put your 5'' autometer tach?
I have recently bought a 5'' autometer tach and I am wondering where to put it. I want it to be the least visible to people outside the car, but the most visible from the driver's seat. I need to find something in between. The best place would be on the passenger's side of the cluster console, but that would be too much in the way. I was thinking between the console and driver's side door, either mounted on the console or on the dash....
I need opinions on this, anyone has pics of the install?
Also, how do you bolt it down? Screw? Bolts?
Thankx

Well, what I meant is that I don't want to put in right in the middle of my dash. I know it's still a 5'' tach, so it will be visible! What I mean is I don't want to show it to the world, I just want to be able to read it easily. I also want you guy's opinion on where to put it and if anyone has any install pics.
Believe it or not, many people don't even notice it. W/ the door closed, the jam kind of covers it up; along w/ the guage pillar.
Trying to make a 5" Tach disappear though...good luck

Nice setup! It's cool, you've got the exact same tach I do (does it go up to 10k?) anyway. That's where I wanted to put mine. How did you attach it to the dash? Screws? Bolts? I was thinking of screwing it right above the airvent, or at the same place you did...give me some advice on that...
Thanks. Yeah, it's the 10k model. The entry level, but it works nice. I just drove 2 pretty hefty bolts in to my dash up there, and they're holding well. It fits nicely. It rests on my guage cluster so it doesn't vibrate much, and it's really easy to read (Don't have to turn head much, and is right there w/ the boost guage).

In the red. The bracket that holds the shift light on, and holds the tach to the dash. Take the tach out of the bracket and line it up where you want to bolt it on. Bolt it in on the bracket, then loosen the side bolts so you can slide the tach back in, put on the shift light, and you're done.

i mounted mine in the same place as his but my bracket is attached to my instrument cluster surround.this was what i found was easiest for mounting. two screws at the top u can set the little square tabs hiding them if you look through your windshiel and then two lower ones under the cluster and it comes out real easy, just mark where it looks good with a pencil or scribe. take the piece out mount your tach and slide it all in at once.
Yeah, I get that part. My question wasn't clear. What I don't get is if you put bolts, how did you get around of putting the nuts behind the dash?
I think I'll mount it right above the air vent. I'll hold up better like that. The bracket doesn't look like it can take sideways impacts.

Oh, ok.
Where I mounted mine, there is foam right there. The bolts screw in to the hard foam and stay like screwing a self tapping screw in to metal...

Got it. Thanks! I'll wait 'till I get the B16 in and see if I really want to have a monster tach in there. I bought it cuz I got a good deal on it. $80 for barely used one was a good deal.

A coworker ordered one of these (Same thing I got). He paid for it, but it never showed up (FedEx didn't deliver). He called Summit and got a replacement. The day after he got the replacement, the original shows up at his doorstep
. So far I like mine. I need to get a Sport Comp to match my boost/af/oil press guages, but matching tach/guages isn't on my $$$ priority list right now.

Yeah, I'm lucky I won't have that problem. I have the exact same tach as yours with sport comp gauges.
I think they look kinda neet all tucked in the dash:

That's pretty nice....and the sunroof too. I saw a CR-X the other day w/ 2 of those flip up panels in the place of the sunroof. Looked pretty cool.

It all came with the car. It's nice when cruising on the highway. It's better than having the windows rolled down....
HAHA.. I left my 5" tach in the store.... too ricey for me.
I mean, god knows those 16sec quarter miles pass by so quicker, one doesn't have the time to peer down and look at an anemic 3" tach (or even a stock tach). 5" tach is the way to go! You gotta be able to find that tach in a snow storm.
I want to make a 11" tach. install it in the passenger seat.
Well, you know, some guys are blind and need a larger tach in case they misshift during their blistering 16sec run.

I find it very hard while boosting to keep an eye on different gauges and the road. So in comes the tach and shift light. One less thing I have to worry about.
