i finally moved to a place with a garage
its a single car garage and so damn small plus it had washer and dryer in it. and my wife keeps trying to take over with her junk to store it there.( but its better than no garage)
i just pulled an engine out of a civic with blown headgasket with almost no tools( a standard tool bag + 2 jackstands and 2 jacks and a rope) took me 2 evenings but its out. and **** is allover the garage now.
my next project is a full b series swap and complete suspension. so its might turn into a nightmare.
in any case.
im hoping to get some tips and tricks on how to organize it and keep it clean.
where do you dispose of chemicals and liquids like brake fluid, oil coolant etc
and i dont mean dispose as in throw it in the bushes on the next block.
im talking about properly dispose
i know oreallys has oil disposal but thats about it.
love to see some pictures of your work area also(please no shops only home garages)

Walmart is good place they will take anything, just put it in the oil containers. I always have to hunt for bolts when I work in my garage so I try to label everything in bags and also walmart has nice little shelves you can use that stack high for the garage.
A lot of local shops will take your old fluids... One of the shops I worked our shop heater was an oil burner.. Needless to say in the wintertime we took in a ton of oil changes and took all the used oil we could get.. As far as keeping your garage organized, try to get shelves.. Or if you can, just put nails in the walls and hang it up out the way.. The below pic isnt showing all of the garage, but I have a 2 car garage and I have tons of stuff hanging off the walls and in the rafters... I just had my buddy fab up a tire rack that I have hanging off the full length of the garage in the rear(not shown) that holds a ton of tires...

My baby, the drift ****..

Just a 2 car garage, 1 double stack box, 1 triple stack box, Air Compressor, A work bench. Air tools make everything easier.

Tell her politely you're not allowing her to turn YOUR garage into a storage unit. It confuses me why people (mainly women) don't realize that garages were built as a space to park a car, they should house automotive things, not christmas lights and knick knacks. If she tries to bring household **** like that into your garage then start bringing car parts into the house and explain to her that if she would like to store a box of old clothing in the garage then you're going to use the medicine cabinet for spray paint, the pantry for your extra set of tires, and occasionally you will be assembling a long block in the dining room.
The womenfolk really seem to mind when you bring engines in the house for some reason.
I love the way a JDM ITR swap just brings a room together. ???

And parts always seem to make their way in the house.

lol my wife tried to do that.
shes like oh i organized everything.
i go to the garage its full of ****.
so i moved all the **** back to the living room she freaked out.
so i told her that if she wants me to fix her car i need space to work on it...
all females assume that the garage is just a storage unit.
girls only want YOU tounderstand them, only few girls actually return the favor and try to understand guys... and respect what we do. most of them need training in that kind of stuff.

I throw my used oil in 5 gallon buckets then throw the lid on tight and drop it off in front of any oil change spot after hours so I don't waste time filling out paperwork

This biggest thing about organization is to pay attention to where you need what tools & where they're in the way. Make every step on purpose. This is just as important in a huge shop as a small one. In a small one you risk tripping over misplaced tools, in a big shop you walk 3 extra miles a day. Equally frustrating and wasteful.
Good luck keeping the wife out.

Im thinking about getting a rolling cart, with a few drawers, so instead of having to get out from under the car, just keep the rolling cart next to the car with the most common stuff I use.

what about all the thrash and parts.
anyone has a good system of managing the old parts and liquids and all the other stuff that doesnt go into garbage.

Garage Shelving......provides an easy way to store items that can be easily taken on and off the shelf for easy use. A good garage shelving system allows you to organize your garage, protect your stuff, and give you easy access to it.

i buy those plastic storage shelves from walmart and bigger ones from craigslist.
the wall mount you gotta make sure they are mounted to studs otherwise they will fall off when you fill them up with stuff and its gonna go straight for your car too.
