Need Help pulling differential off y21
I just bought a y21 tranny for a great price. the dude told me it grinds on 3rd and 4th when pushing it "sometimes". So i opened it up to see what was going on. (using this awesome guide: https://honda-tech.com/forums/transmission-drivetrain-127/b-series-transmission-teardown-rebuild-tutorial-2443459/ ). So inside i found a half of a bolt on the stuffed magnet and the threaded part some where else in the tranny. gears look good.

i noticed a bunch of non metal shavings near the oil seal of the axles.

{HERES THE PART WHERE IM ASKING FOR HELP}
looks like a piece of the casing broke off under the differential doesnt look too bad but i want to see the total damage and cant seem to figure out Whats holding the differential in place. Can anyone that has pulled this off explain whats got me scratching my head??? any help is appreciated. Thanks

Diff should come right out..sometimes you need to tap a bit and put it on its side..might be some metal jammed in there holding it in a little tighter. Be careful not to smash/pinch your fingers!
With all that metal floating around..make sure you clean the transmission very thoroughly..make sure none of the oil passages in the shafts are blocked, check the gears closely for chips and pitting, and I would recommend replacing all the main bearings at this point.

Thanks for the quick response. I will try putting on its side and tapping it out. Thanks for the recommendation of the bearings as well. I'll keep you posted on the outcome.
Tapping it off worked like a charm! Here's the damage I found under the diff. No wonder why the guy i bought it off of was saying that it would grind "s0mEtimEs"!

Any advice on how to remove this bearing? I already removed the hold plate and bolt. I tried prying it out and tapping the case from the other side with a rubber hammer. but i got nothing..
THanks

Gonna need a bearing puller(slide hammer type) See if your local parts store will loan you one..or if your in the area, I can pop it out for you. That is what I use atleast! makes it really easy.
Similar to this..I have a snap on one and we use the same at the shop

They are pricey..so look for a loaner or if your local, come by.
