Misfire 2,4,5 pilot 2004
Hi.
this is my story
25 days ago I bought a used Honda pilot 2004, it was perfect 10 days ago I sent the car for outside wash, when it finish I found the VTM-4 with Engine lights are ON, I send the car to the tech., after he scanned he told me that there is misfire in cylinder number #5, he reset the lights and he asked me to drive for a week than he needs to change the plugs and the coil of number 5, three days after the VTM-4 and engine light turned ON again, so I sent the car to the tech, he scanned again and he found the same message so he replaced the Coil #5 with all the 6 spark plugs and the engine oil with filter and asked for $$$, 2 minutes after, the lights goes On again and a slight vibration when idle, he put it in the scan directly and 4 errors now ( misfire in Cylinders 2,4,5 and something like random). he was choked and he tried to fix it without successes. he asked me to gave him a time till next day in order to see what the problem as the lights will come after 5 minutes or maybe after 1 hour of driving.
today he called me and asked to bring the car as he need to clean the 6 injectors and to check the computer card of the car and the last one to check the cylinder pressure, as the worst scenario the car might need new engine ..
really I am afraid to send the car to him again and I am thinking if it could be the problem of the plugs wire , kindly help and advice.
Thanks in Advance

Dear bryse68
Thank you for your quick answer, I don't think any normal mechanic can update the PCM software, I already contacted the local authorized Honda dealer and service (very expensive to deal with) and they gave me an appointment on the next Wednesday.
I will ask them about the software update also.
I have an idea, since the car recently imported to the country, could be the local gas and octane level (95) different with the one used before.?
The car still have a little vibration on idle , and most of the VTM-4 light appeared when the engine not cold and with slow speed or idle.
regards

i work for a dealership and i've had a few with misfire concerns dealing with valve adjustment. there i also a service bulletin, unsure if your year pilot falls in its catagory though.
Dear brye68
The result of visiting the workshop of the local authorized Honda dealer and service are
1- After couple of hours they provide me the result of their first diagnostic, which is you need a new engine as the spark plugs plenty with Engine oil. I was very upset and after 5 hours and when I asked them to bring the car I discovered that they are bring and talking about other car, simply it was not my car!!!!!
2- when they really informed me about my car situation (after 8 hours) they informed that they cleaned the injectors as one of the 6 was almost closed, checked the cylinders pressure " Very Good result"; updated the PCM software, checked the fuel pump pressure and type of fuel. and after 1/2 hour of the driving test the Vtm-4 or Engine light does not turned on. but there is still a very small light vibration on idle and they need to see it on the next day.
I asked them about the valve adjustment, their answer was "No need". and they need to check the electrical issues.
I will see today what they will inform and charge.
Regards

If the closed injector was the issue, you would get misfire on all cylinders due to one cylinder causing a lean condition detected by the o2 sensor, in turn casues the ecu to richen up the fuel. also, it took 8 hours for a explaination like that......unlikely.
Dear bryse68
It takes one and half day to fix the car, as they did the following as per the invoice.
1- adjust and clean injectors
2- adjust and. Clean throttle body
3- PGM-FI lamp lit + misfire
They mentioned that the injectors 90% cleaned and they prefer to change it $$$$ later.
I drive the car after that for one hour with full load , the car was good, no warning lights, very small light vibration on 0 speed.
Hope this was the issue, and I want to thank you for your support ,
Regards
