BHP / HP and WHP - is there still a big difference ?
I was just googling this up and came across the Subaru forums where those guys are claiming that nowdays the hp rating in the brochure or manufacturer's site is very close to whp unlike a few years ago... *cough* is this true or are they just fooling themselves?
I even talked to an 2011 Evo MR owner and he swore that his hp rating was at the wheels. I did not even try to argue with the guy lol. Funny how people see a boosted Honda and want to throw their brochure numbers around lol.

Hp most of the time is flywheel hp but then there loses with the drivetrain vs whp is the hp at the wheels
not really sure about bhp
not really sure about bhp
Bhp is usually what car manufactorers use. This is usually measured at the flywheel.
Whp is of course at the wheels. Also drivetrain losses will take away from bhp at whp. Factory my evo 8 puts down like 272 bhp at the crank. Being as its awd it will have more loss through the drivetrain. At the wheels it makes around 220 to 230 stock.
I call bs on the evo owner you talked to. They only have like 30 more hp than my 03 evo 8 and weigh like ten pounds less. If that was the case the evo x would have around 350 crank factory.

LOL thanks for clearing the Evo drama. I guess it is also bs that the subaru guys are claiming that nowdays bhp is VERY close to whp lol. Guess they don't wanna hear the real numbers lol.
Yes ur right they don't know what they are talking about. For one subaru and mitsubishi had what was called a gentlemans agreement back in the day before the evo was in america and it basically was that neither would produce a motor in excess of like 305 bhp. Which is crank hp. And them trying to say bhp now days is close to wheel hp cannot be true due to so many differences in drivetrains. Even the weight of the drivetrain parts will affect how much power gets to the ground. This is y car makers just use flywheel horsepower, plus when they design an engine they test it before shoving it in a car lol they do this with an engine dyno and measure the power at the flywheel since it is yet to be in a car
Ya true that - I think there are some simple formulas around the net for calculating whp to bhp (bragging rights?
) and bhp to whp
) and bhp to whp
