What do you think....2900 for pretty clean 90 Si....
I am looking for a winter car/good milage/reliable driver.
A guy by me is selling a 90 Si 5spd hatch with 120k, new timing belt, water pump, alternator, plugs, wires, distributor. Body is pretty nice...passanger door side body molding is partially missing, and slight paint chipping on the bumper is all I could see at night.
I called him today and the asking price is $2900, but he is willing to move a little...what do you think??

I'd sell you my '90 Si for that. It's only got 253,000 miles on it. Anyway... if the body is good, the engine has good compression, the axles are good, the car hasn't been bent out of shape in a crash, and the clutch is good, and the vents haven't been painted, ect. ... well, that's up to you. I would suggest getting it checked out by a knowlegeable tech that specializes in Hondas if you are serious about this car. Sure, it'll cost a few bucks, but it may save you a lot more down the road. Not having seen the car or knowing anything about it's maintenance history or mechanical condition, I'd think $1800 would be more reasonable, although I wouldn't let mine go that cheaply. The mileage on that car is low though. Is it the original instrument pod, and is it really an Si?
Oh, the CV joints were just replaced as well.
I am going to get more info tommorow when I go to check it out with the owner. From the sounds of it, the owner sounded like an older male...perhaps in his 50s to 60s.....

i'd try to talk him down a little. maybe $2000 or a price lower if you can.
if all those parts were changed, than it should still be pretty reliable. just repaint the bumper and replace the body molding. they go for cheap on ebay.

I think thats a good price if the car is clean. Around here theyre hard to find now (Si's) and when you do theyre going for at least 3500. The one your lookin at sounds clean. Pick it up!

Picking it up tommorow. $2500.....there is some rust around the driver door, and there are dings, but it runs great! Plus the guy is a honda fanatic. Has owned like 20 hondas in his life. Currently he is 66 years old and driving a 98 Hatchback!!
Only work I think it needs is some brake bleeding...they are real soft.
Oh, I am suprised how nice the seats are. I had 99 Si seats in my car(yea I know they really suck) but for a 90 I am suprised the seats are so comfortable and supportave.

alot of you guys get too lucky...
I bought my '90 CRX Si for $2500 - I thought it was a steal of a deal.
152k miles on it. Brand new drivers side axle. Lowered, with 'good quality' aftermarket struts & springs. And it had a full custom piped cat-back exhaust to top it off! It looked pretty clean too!
After I bought it, I started noticing things: There seemed to be more dents than I first remembered. I all of a sudden realized that all of the weatherstripping was all rotted and cracked. The rear window defroster doesn't work. The 'good quality' aftermarket struts were a little old. Jamex is no longer in business - I guess mine are about 8 years old? They're dead. Tires sucked.
The custom bent exhaust rattled against the bottom of the car. The clutch started to slip. The pass. side axle died.
And then to top it off, just a few months later some idiot girl hits my car in a parking lot.
I hate how my car looks now. I should've paid under $2,000 for it, because in the end I'll be putting more money into body repair than I spent for the car.
