Default running b20v on stock p30 ecu?

hey I have a b20v run by a stock p30 (unmodified) ECU.

i'm aware i can get more performance by modding my ecu and running a b20v basemap.

how big is the difference between the b16/b20v basemaps...

the car doesn't seem to be running perfectly (very tiny hesitation on accel/idling a little low etc) on my P30 ecu.

i don't want to chip my ecu until i get the b20v running the best it can on the p30..

but im starting to think having a p30 is what's making my car not run that well.

everything else is completely stock on the car.

What benefit would there be to getting the engine running better on the P30 before getting the correct map?

The ECU can compensate somewhat during regular driving, I think something like 10% fuel trim (If someone knows for sure, please chime in), however when you go full throttle, the ECU will go into closed loop operation and you risk running too lean and damaging the motor. The engine does not take O2 sensor readings into account during closed loop, so it will run the same amount of fuel and timing as it would if it were a B16.

Chipping the ECU isn't that hard, and the parts aren't that expensive. I recommend getting a Moates Ostrich, Hondata, or some other device you can update in realtime. You'll eventually get hungry for more power and these will be easier to tune. Chrome is said to have some driveability issues unless your tuner is familiar with it's quirks. That being said, it can do just about the same as Hondata.

I'm looking to go Hondata, there are no tuners in my area (or dynos) believe it or not.

Thanks for the info dude, so what's next?

Do i have to mail my ECU somewhere to get it chipped? or can i do it myself..

I will get the car out of storage and legalized tomorrow and try not to drive it too much.

i'm not sure if the car actually has something wrong with it, or if it's just the wrong b16 (instead of b20v) basemap.. thats my question.

will the wrong basemap make it run horribly or just not as much power as possible?

so one problem with p30 ecu with b20v is will you wire up a knock sensor to the b20 block? if not cel right there. and you pretty much will be using fuel maps/ignition maps meant for a 1.6 b16. compared to a 2.0 block. put it this way a basemap is NOT a Tune but better in most cases than to run a stock ecu. chipping ecu only cost $50-100 and a tune $200-500

You can chip the ECU yourself or mail it off. Some shops charge about $100, I generally charge about $50. It's easy enough if you have the tools though.

and when i chip it, is it loaded with specific tuning information or can i change that tuning later on myself?

it would be nice to get a b20v basemap and use that to get my b20v running perfectly before adding i/h/e porting head etc etc --- then update the tune AGAIN without needing a new ecu or anything.

thanks dude

for a basemap talk to phearable.net. hes on here somewhere or thats the website.

otherwise you can look into learning how to street tune yourself. shouldn't be impossibly hard for you. since i've seen where and how your doing this project. unless your better at mechanical then technical.

okay so it looks like i need to chip my ecu.

i will be the tuner for this motor, i don't have any tuners or dynos on this island. i guess i'll be street tuning.

what's a good full-control option for me? i need complete control over the tuning (later on i will be supercharged) and i need to be able to alter the tuning myself with laptop.

i want the tuning platform that all other tuners have wet dreams about...

the tuning platform that will make the women drop their pants as soon as i tell them my car is tuned by ______.

the tuning platform that Mr Honda himself *********** to..

the tuning platform that the world's fastest civics operate on (the civic that flies and shoots lasers)

the tuning platform that gives my car an extra 500hp just for having on my ecu

the tuning platform that has options like *disable sonic boom* for when I exceed mach 1...

get my drift?

the tuning platform that i can just stare at my motor and raise my eyebrow and it tunes itself...

Dude no offense, but you're an idiot. You want to run a B20VTEC on an unmodified P30 ECU and you want it to work like a champ. Why is it that every guy with a B20VTEC half asses the whole set up?

Sorry its not gonna work properly. Get a P28 and start tuning. Use Crome Free to start. Good luck.

herp derp herp derp derp oh i am an idiot. but no offense was taken ................

INFLAMMATORY COMMENT

is it possible to chip a p30? I can't find any companies that list p30 under their 'moddable ecu'

there are no dynos in my area so i must do the tuning myself. and i know nothing about it.

feel free to post links to any guides or outlines on the basics of tuning a motor...

Probably not. Only OBD1/0 ECU's can be chipped.

oh wait a p30 is an obd1 ECU.

phearable.net its on there. trust me. is it used anywhere near as much as a p28? no.
last i checked too its cheaper for them to send out a p28 basemaped then to send in your p30 by like 75 bucks.

i'd also go check out the tuning subforum for help on the street tune.

You could probably sell the P30 for more than a P28 would cost. Or a P06 or P75 could be chipped and converted to VTEC and work just the same.

Yes, but by time you ship it off, have it chipped, and then reshipped to you you would probably be better off finding one for sell that's already been chipped.

QUIT BEING CHEAP WITH YOUR RIDE!! IF YOU WANT IT TO RUN CORRCTLY, EITHER DO THE RESEARCH OR CALL CHRIS @ XENOCRON.COM.

YOU HAVE NO CLUE WTF YOUR DOING AND THE POOR CIVIC IS GOING TO PAY THE PRICE.

DO IT RIGHT OR SOMEWHAT HALF *** CORRECTLY AND THEN WHEN YOU COME ON HERE YOU WONT GET BASHED FOR BEING A DUMBASS

Bump for a guide? Do you search the internet at all? They have hellaplenty guides all over the place. Youtube has videos. Try here for starters.

I've been watching your build and making notes of how NOT to do it. Thanks for the learning experience.

thanks for the link dude i'm already all over that one.

ppl should not take the experiences or advice of others - to be perfectly honest. they should do their own complete research, organize and compile their own findings, and then reference their newly acquired knowledge with that of a paid professional. almost as if hiring a consultant.

yeh i'm sure my build looks shoddy and half-arsed on all fronts. i don't post up all the 'look HT I did research and this is what i figured out!' threads..

nobody wants to hear ppl talking about how great they are. PM me if you have any questions about stuff, i get motivated in spurts when I have time off work etc..

if it helps your research you can hit me up about hondata tuning, my wideband and new ecu should be here by next week at the latest it's very exciting :D

thanks again forthe link.
