Default If planning on selling R, maybe look into the mazdaspeed protege 5

Sorry Mods if this shouldn't be here...just thought it might since I wanna compare it to the type R.
Anyways, my friend is looking for a car to buy and he has been in love with the WRX since it came stateside. He also started looking into the MP5 (protege 5), and we went to a mazda dealership last night to check one out. For a 16,000 sticker price the car is pretty nice. A sport version is coming over in 03, which includes many performance upgrades over the base model; it's going to have a LSD, 170 hp, 160 tq @ 3500... skidpad performance is suppose to be comparable to the WRX and the new lancer that is coming out. This car outperformed the Civic Si, Sentra Spec R and SVT focus. Obviously it's not a type R...but it's something to consider. The car looks very nice; maybe mazda is coming up...

I dunno, I think that wagon is pretty pimp. Lower it a little, drop a t3/4, and paint it urban camo

Can't, not without changing the internals. They just slapped a tubo on the regular protege engine without using forged pistons etc.

Wagons own...

A snailed wagon would own all

Current engine is the same as the mazda miata from my understanding. I know plenty of people who slapped turbos on those and run 12 psi all day.

Does Mazda still produce Rotary engines?

im sure the mazdaspeed protege can handle more than the factory 5.2lbs of boost.
set it at 7 psi or more, bigger exhaust, intake, DP and u may hit 190-200 to the wheels. not bad at all and it also comes w/ LSD.

or like trey said, if its the miata motor than crank up the boost.

Yeah, I think the new RX-8 is supposed to have their new generation rotary.
Hopefully a new turbo version is on the horizon.
