2007 Odyssey Brake Problems
Hi All -
Anyone else have brake issues with their 2007 Odyssey? We've had problems with our Odyssey's brakes since about a year after we bought it. It has a problem with grinding / squeaking on the front brakes similar to when your pads get low. They are also very mushy and squishy. I've had it to the dealer probably 4 times and they always say they are fine or can't reproduce it. The 2nd time, they said the rotors were warped (only at 20k miles.) I just had it in again for the 40K service and they said the brakes were fine and still had 40% or so life left on the pads. Of course, now the van is out of warranty. I'm at a loss as to what to try next since Honda won't acknowledge the problem. I've Googled the issue and have seen dozens of complaints for the exact same problem on the NHTSA website.
I may try to switch out the pads for after-market ones. Any other suggestions or has anyone experienced and corrected the issue?
Thanks,
Scott

Very sorry to hear about your brake issues.
With my 2006, we replaced the front rotors because they were warped (also 20K miles on ODO). Symptoms were excessive vibrating when braking from high speeds. BTW, we went the non OEM route with the rotors and pads. IIRC, odyclub members had stated that the OEM rotors were suseptible to warpage.
In addition, we had the brake booster recall done. Have you had this one done?

Our 06 warped the rotors at about 40k. Dealer wanted to use the existing pads after turning the rotors because they were "in spec". IMO always use fresh pads with new or newly resurfaced rotors, the old pads are usually glazed over from normal use, tire and wheel dressing getting on them etc....... resulting in poor brake perf and heat.
I insisted on new pads. At 70k now and brakes are smooth and strong.
I just went with the stock pads as my wife drives it almost exclusively, If you drive it a little harder EBC makes some great rotor/pads.

Thanks RFairbairn and Mindoro. I did have the recall done and it didn't help the vibration though. I ended up replacing the rotors and the pads with Akebono's this weekend. Should have done it years ago but while it was under warranty, I just stuck with what the dealer was telling me. After driving a lot over the weekend, I haven't heard one peep from the brakes. I'll never put on OEM pads or rotors again!
