Figure out why it's knocking before making any snap decisions.

as said above find out why it was knocking and go from there.

personally if it was my car and money was not an option id send the block/head into a good machine shop and start ordering parts and just build it from ground up then get a good tune and call it a day..

good luck brotha

Figure out where the knock is coming from. If its a bearing just sell the motor as is and advertise that it has a rod knock. Someone will pick it up for $600. Go buy a Jdm Itr long block for about $2400 from a reputible importer, bolt your trans up to it, and your good to go. Trust me, you will spend a lot more time and money to rebuild it correctly than a good Itr motor will cost you.

it's likely not a knock, but rather piston slap. after the engine heats up, the clearance between the skirt and cylinder walls gets tighter through expansion.
you can either just live with it, or pull the engine and have the cylinders checked for taper/out of round, re-bored and honed. taper of the pistons checked as well and compared with the readings from the cylinders to calculate clearance.
or you can just try and find another b18c bottom end in good shape

rebuilding or making some attempt to fix it will at least help you know more about the motor. Selling it and buying another one will land you back in the land of the unknown.

This is a perfect time to rebuild, bump up the compression a tad, build the head, tune, I/H/E, run 13's all day.

Doing so may be relatively straightforward but it also takes an enormous amount of time and money.

OP - step 1 is to see what's wrong and decide what you're willing to invest in that engine vs the cost of an engine you could get from another source. What you decide to do depends on your long-term goals as well as the funds available to you.

this is what i would do, and or spend $1800 on a jdm gsr engine. few perks doing this if you need to plug in for emissions

the itr while faster will require more cash to convert since you'll need a p73-a02 ecu and the proper evap solenoid

the gsr will require the oil pump swap and vtec solenoid but will run on your oem ecu

all said and done the gsr will run around $1000 less to make pass

but

the R is faster

mpg is nearly identical
