Yeah, you'll need a 91 flywheel, because the sizes from 88,89,90-91 are all different. Use the 91 tranny, clutch plate and pressure disc, and I believe the throwout bearing is universal. Don't forget to change the pilot bearing in the flywheel as well.

Do you know for sure that the flywheel is an 89? If not check before you pick up another one.

Well it must be a 89 fly wheel because the old tranny is an 89, correct?

Not necessarily. You could very easily have a 90 flywheel. You can use any d-series flywheel with any d-series transmission. The 88 is somewhat of an oddball, but I will not get into that here. The thing that will matter will be the clutch. If you have an 89 clutch (200mm) then you need the corresponding flywheel. In 90 the clutch went to 212mm and therefore the flywheel has a larger surface area.

Basically you can just change out the tranny and not have to worry about any of this. Whether you have an 89 or a 90 flywheel more than likely you have the corresponding clutch which is all that really matters.

Is everyone good and confused now??

Ok here is what I have got from this info, If I am putting a 91 tranny on a 91 engine, I must change the clutch to a 212 size, and the fly wheel to a 90 or 91 becuase of the size change of the clutch?

You will be able to use you current clutch and flywheel. There is no difference between the 89 and 91 transmission. I know my last post was as clear as mud and I apologize.

You only need a 91 flywheel if you run a 90-91 clutch. All the flywheels will bolt on, you nust need the matching clutch.

90-91 are 212 clutch disk
89 is a 200mm clutch disk
88 is a clutch disk.

If you have the money, upgrade to a 90-91 clutch and flywheel. If not, just throw all your 89 stuff into the 91 trans.
