Default LS/VTEC Timing Adjustment Issue

While I try to adjust the distributor position with the timing gun,

Should the sign on the timing cover plastic align with the middle BTDC sign for 16 degrees just like the typical Integra LS ?

I have a B18A1 block with GSR head & GSR Distributor.

If I do it, at idle, the motor doesnt sound normal.
While running, it makes small blasts from the muffler. Just like I advanced it too much.

(I use neptune rtp and lock the ignition at 16 degrees.)

what can be wrong ?

With your timing light set to 0 degrees, and the ignition locked at 16 degrees, the pointer on the cover should line up with the WHITE mark on the pulley...

well, ok, but, isn't it same with my timing light set at 16 degrees and cover pointer line up with the RED mark on the pulley ?

here's the thing. I just came from some playing with it. After setting the BTDC to 16 degrees, when car is about 180 degrees, no problem.

When the car reaches 195 degrees F, it starts to make uncontrolled small blasts from the muffler.
is this pre-ignition ?

blasts from the exhaust is after-burn, a characteristic of retarded ignition timing.

Pre-igntion would manifest itself in the intake manifold or combustion chamber before TDC, and can in some instances cause severe damage to the manifold or the rotating assembly.

ok so if it's because of retarded timing, why does it happen when I advance the distributor to find the 16 degrees BTDC ?

The car sound turns to normal when I retard the distributor.

if u set the timing gun to 0 degrees and point to WHITE (0 degrees), then it's the same thing as a basic timing gun pointing at 16 degrees BTDC.

can "blasts from the exhaust" mean any vacuum leak ? because I think I have some.
When the engine is cold, the idle go up and down until the car gets warmed up.

So what you're saying even with the ecu jumper harness jumped. If you have your timing in Neptune at 16* then with a timing gun it will point to the White mark at 0 degrees?

the "0 degrees" theory seemed correct if you retard the timing gun to 0 degress with the **** on it.

but that is not what I did.

what I did is : 16 degrees in neptune, 16 degrees at the timing gun, middle red marker linep up with the mark on the timing belt cover.

Then you're fine. When I change my timing gun to 16* The red mark "16*BTDC" will walk away further from the timing belt cover.

OK, but after I do this, the motor works like it's leaned out - but the AFR show me it's around 14:1

The motor doesnt work quite well. what should I check else ?
I changed the sparks.

If you're timing is dead on then timing is not your issue. BTW what is included in your setup? Cams, etc.

I forgot if you mentioned it, but is it tuned?

The cylinder head is completely stock (b18c1 Integra GSR)

the basecode of Integra GSR is loaded. I adjusted the AFR, it's around 14:1

If you're just on a basemap, then it needs to actually be tuned. What do you mean as in the motor does not work well?

it is tuned by me according to 750cc injectors.

I'm talking about the idle ignition problem, nothing else yet..

that is incorrect. if you put 16 degrees on the gun, you should be at the white mark on the pulley, which is 0 degrees. 0 degrees on the gun should be at the red mark.
