Can a bypassed fitv cause the vtec not to engage?
Last week we did a mini-me swap on my friends 92 dx, b7 block z6 head with skunk2 cam. Vtec does not engage and we are going crazy, we don't know what else to check.
We knew the cluster went bad from time to time so we replaced it, still no vtec.
He put a b&m fpr and set it at 50 psi which was way too high, the car was running very rich and threw a cel 22, vtec pressure valve. So we did the troubleshooting following the workshop manual and turns out everything was fine and working with the pressure valve and wires going to the ecu. We then lowered the pressure down to 40 psi and the cel never came back on, but still no vtec.
So I was wondering, I noticed the fitv under the throttle body has no hoses connected to it at the inlet port and the outlet has been welded shut. The coolant hose coming out of the intake manifold that is suposed to connect on the outlet of the fitv has been blocked as well so now the EACV is connected at both ends on the water pipe at the back of the block.
Could this cause the vtec not to engage?
Oil level is good
Oil restrictor has been removed from head
Ground on thermostat has been cleaned
wires going to pin A4 and D6 have been checked and are working
vtec pressure switch has continuity, ground is good.
vtec solenoid clicks when shorted to battery
What else can we check please help!

FITV or no FITV makes no difference. Your problem lies elsewhere.
As for the oil restrictor, did you mean it was removed from the block and not the head? Its been a while since Ive messed with sohc stuff..
