Would you trade for an R32 GTR?
Today I got offered a trade on my 01 CDM. A 1992 Nissan Skyline GTR.
The Skyline is in nice shape, body and interior look pretty good. All the major maintenance items (belts, hoses, gaskets, suspension bits) have been taken care of. It has the basic intake, exhaust and suspension mods.
At first I didn't have any interest in a JDM car but the more I think about it, the more tempted I become. If it wasn't a performance first car like ITR I'd have no interest. The R is my garage queen so I'm not terribly worried about needing something that is super reliable.
What to do, what to do........

If it were a U.S. ITR that was pretty beat I would say go for it. My friend has a R32 GTR, it's alright but nothing I would go out and buy. In fact there quite a few for sale here. A decent one only goes for maybe $12k. It is no where near the track feel of an ITR though.

It really depends. Low mileage? As new inside and out? I do like R32s but quite frankly the suspension design is primitive, the early ATTESSA is very understeery and if you aren't familiar with Skylines they are hideously hard (and expensive) to fix. How's the parts support in Canada? I guess with the influx of JDM imports you guys have, parts aren't that hard to come by?
If this car is as mint as your ITR then I would consider the trade since it's a faster car and the RB engine is awesome. If it's just a run of the mill import in fair condition and you can pick it up anytime then pass.

There is a ton of support for GTR's in Canada. Due to our import laws (anything over 15 years is admissible) there are quite a few shops in Canada that keep OEM parts in stock. Lots of Skylines over here

I would suspect that working on a twin turbo AWD car would be a little more complex than the mk1/2 VW's and Honda's that I'm familiar with.......
ya, don't do it man, I bought my Type R instead of a Skyline, they're nice, but more and more are popping up. not many in really good shape either. and the R32's don't compare to the R33 you can now import to cananda. seen a couple of those kicking around as well, all beat to hell. and 17 year old kids driving them. that kinda turns me off of the whole RHD JDM cars we have up here
I think I am bias toward keeping the ITR. I've always wanted a CDM ITR 01… Do what your heart desires… Just know finding another CDM ITR won't be easy… (you probably already know this.)
Learnt my lesson, say no to old Nissan sports cars unless you want something that needs a lot more attention and money spent.
ITR on the other hand is so damn easy to maintain and the rarity tends to keep prices up. Pretty sure your 01 is worth more than that GTR. By the sounds of it there's enough of them in Canada so if you want one, just buy a GTR when you have a bit more cash, don't swap.
That's honestly a tough one for me to say, that GTR is really nice, just as rare in different respects. If you have the extra dough to fix up the GTR and add some nice mods, then I think I'd trade. Its more of a novelty than the R, IMO.
Remove the fuse from the engine bay fuse box, now you have a RWD GTR... yes just 1 fuse controls all of that. Honestly after working on a R32, seeing the price for parts, and driving one... I would never own one. The cool factor wears off real quick. I see so many R32's around and hardly ever come across a real ITR. I would however trade if it were an R34 GTR, buddy of mine had a black one and the technology in that car for that year blows most newer cars out of the water. They are slow though lol.
Nissans are stupidly over engineered. My Z32 is from the same period, shares most of the suspension bits and even more cramped in the engine bay. Hate working on it, no choice really since you can't trust a shop with it. A 1992 GTR is almost a decade older than your ITR, I'd be willing to bet all the bushes probably need replacing and other problems will start popping up if they haven't already.

Once again, keep your ITR then buy one of these later.
