Default H22 Crank bolt removal tool to change the timing belt?? Any way around that?

I'm trying to change my timing belt, but my impact won't pull the crank nut off and I can't hold it still to hit it with a breaker bar.. any tips or tricks to getting this off without the $80 tool from HOnda? Anyone want to sell me their tool for cheap? or let me rent it?? PLEASE HELP!

one way to take off crank pulley bolt without spending $$$$$$ on the tool is find a way to lock the flywheel in place. Thats pretty much the only way that the crankshaft will not move if the flywheel is locked up
good luck

wait you are taking off your crank pulley? i thought you just had to use a special tool to undo the timing belt tensioner on the h22 to change the timing belt.

Try using an impact gun if you have on they'll normally get it off if it's strong enough, otherwise lock the damn flywheel with a threading a bolt into it and one into the tranny casing both connected by a metal bar of some sort. Then get out the breaker bar and snap it loose. It should come right off. Have fun

Yeah, I tried my impact gun.. Guess she's getting weak, cuz it didn't budge. haha .yeah, so that would require I separate the engine from the tranny, eh? didn't really want to do that, but I guess I will..
Anyone else have any tips?

If you can borrow a 3/4" impact gun, that will usually do the trick.

had the same problem and i was using a impact gun rated at 600lbs of torque by SNAPON---well did not work.

Solution--a hand held torch will do the job--heat the bolt up for couple minutes and it should loosen up all the honda loc tite used. Then breaker bar or impact that thing. Make sure you don't get the bolt wet while its hot---

another thing i've seen done is using a pipe as a breaker bar--lay it to the ground where it won't spin out and crank the motor once---be careful though--bar has to be on the ground so it wont spin out.

Well, my engine's out of the car, and the tranny's still attached.. Any way of doing it this way, or do we have to separate them? Prolly should, just to have a look at the clutch and stuff. I'm getting desparate! Please help....
Or, does anyone HAVE the tool they'd be willing to RENT to me?

I just replaced the tensioner this past weekend. If you use an impact gun, make sure your compressor is at least 5+ hp. Those little 2 hp ones are weak.

Go buy a craftsman chain wrench. Wrap the crank pulley with the chain wrench and use your impact gun to lossen the bolt. Hold the chain wrench so it will keep the pulley from moving. It works fine and very easy.
