Icon2 Overheating 96 Accord LX

Driving to work today, running about 70-75 Mph, my RPM's jumped to about 5,000 and then my Accord 202,650 overheated! Let it cool and about 3 hours later came out and added antifreeze, but as soon as I started the engine, I looked and could see engine coolant running onto ground. Looks like the coolant was coming from the backside of the engine near the firewall. Had to have it towed in from the job! Can anyone tell me what happened please and why the car overheated out of the blue?
