so im picking up a a jdm b16 block from a buddy was rebuilt recently but the dropped a valve and it needs one piston replaced could i just replace that piston? but its kinda hard to find p30 pistons so should i get some type r pistons? or just try and score one p30?

We can not sit here on the Internet and tell you what your motor may or may not need. If you measure everything and make sure the new piston will fit in your bore correctly then you can just re-use your old rings (assuming they are OK).

What you have to understand is the rotating assembly wears to it's own pattern. The cylinders could be egged causing the new piston (as in used/new/whatever) to seize in te bore when it warms; or cause excessive blow by. You NEVER hone a bore and not use BRAND NEW rings - the old rings are too smooth to properly wear into the fresh hone.

Also, you have no idea if your cylinder wall is even OK - you could have huge gouges in it - or who knows what (unless you already have it apart that is).

i have done it both ways...replaced 1 piston, and replaced all 4. it's a big job either way. i have a couple decent pistons from my rebuild, pm me if you need one.
