Default Replacing an 01 Civic Auto tranny with a 04 or 05 auto tranny

Should I go for the 04 or 05? Ive tried researching but i couldnt find 100% proof if the 04 or 05 trannies have fixed the defective 2nd gear clutch packs that are in 01s. Both trannies are taken from wrecks, 04 has 30,000km, 05 has 49,000km. The 04 is local and i can meet the guy in person, the 05 is in a town 8hrs from me and would ship to my door for $139 more than the 04.

Heres the thing, i go on carcomplaints.com and for 2001 AT there is 700 reported failures!!!!! the #1 complaint of all time on that site! Of all cars!!! Then i look at 2002 and its less but still a lot at 290. Then 2003 is like 28, 2004 is like 8 and 2005 is like 13. I know this isnt 100% proof but to me thats a night and day difference with the 05 and 04 considerably lower! Some say it might not have as many reports cause of them being newer, but its only a few years newer than my 01. From 04/05 till now is still 6-7yrs for users to report problems! Thats lots of time to report failures!

So do the 04 and 05 ATs still have the defective 2nd gear clutch pack? If they did, then i would think that the reports for failure would be much much higher than it is now.

Grab the 04 one since it has less mileage and is closer to you.

True. Dont wanna have to ship back a tranny if its say DOA.

So 04 and 05s are pretty much clones to ech other? Internals that is. Im still researching but i think i read somewhere, that the filter is not internal on the 04/05s....like 01.
