Speedometer not working and rpms jump from 1250-1750
This is my first time posting on this forum. I have a 1994 Honda Accord. My speedometer started going to 0 and then jumping back up to the correct speed. It eventually quit working and stays at 0 all the time. At the same time I noticed a check engine light. Here is what I have noticed concerning the check engine light:
Are these problems connected? What are the likely problems?
- The light will not come on until the car has warmed up, driven highway speeds, and then slowed down until it is still in 4th gear but the rpms are down to 1750.
- The check engine light will come on at this point but nothing happens until you reach 1250 rpms.
- Once it slows to 1250 rpms the engine begins to jump up and down between 1250 and 1750.

It' a cluster. Most likely, your circuit board is bad. You could send it out for repair, but it's cheaper to buy a used one from craigslist or your local junkyard.
While the pc boards are prone for failure on these cars, most of the time when there is a "check engine light" associated with the speedo problem, you should focus on the stored code first. Pull the number by jumping the "scs" blue connector under the right side of dash, turn the ignition switch to the on postion and count the blinks. If the light stays solid for about 3 seconds that counts for 10 and 1 second blinks count 1. If the code is related to the speed sensor let me know and I can help you in further diagnosis. Focus on one thing at a time. I did have a 1995 Accord Wagon about 2 months ago that had a bad speed sensor as well as a failed pc board. The speed sensor wasn't giving a signal in turn causing the gauge to read 0mph, once I replaced it after driving a few miles the speedo would become erratic and sometimes stick at 20mph. If your pc board ends up being a problem I can repair it for a reasonable price. New pc boards can be around $300, and used pc boards can be just as bad as yours. This is a very common problem among these vehicles so it's not worth the trouble of taking out your old one and putting another old one in that may give the same trouble in a month. Hope this helps.

Sorry, I haven't had time to give an update. It was the speed sensor. I got that fixed and all the problems are gone. There is one issue that I noticed since I got my car back. I'm not sure if I should be concerned. When I am slowing and have just about reached a stop (5-10 mph) I here a click and I think the slows slightly like it's downshifting. It's not very noticeable, but I hadn't ever noticed it before.
