Default 93 EX overheating after cleaning IACV

Cleaned the IACV today, and took it for a drive. It ran fine for about 10 minutes and then started overheating. It seems like the bottom hose is normal temp, but the top hose is super hot! When I disconnected the right line of the IACV a little pressured water came out. NOt sure if this is normal, or if these guys get clogged. I figured only air would go through these lines. Not sure if I should start with a thermostat, or (since I'm new to Honda) if these guys have a common issue with overheating.

The higher hose is going to get hot first. First, move the heater control **** to "fully red", then loosen the bleeder valve on the top of the thermostat housing and start the car while pushing up and down on the front bumper to try to jar the air pocket loose that formed when you let coolant fall out of the iacv. Hopefully you'll see air bubbles come out with the coolant, then just close it up when it starts shooting out only coolant up out of the valve.

The air bubbles would cause it to heat up?

Yes. Bleed the air out via the nipple on the intake.

yeah, they get caught behind the thermostat so that the water doesn't touch the thermostat which doesn't allow it to open.

Thanks! That worked great, however I drove it to work today and back home put it in a park and it overheated again. It didn't overheat until I turned it off and turn the key off and back on to roll up the windows. I started it up, the fans kicked on and temp went back down. I started it up and it seemed ok returned to normal. Its very weird. I changed the thermostat and radiator cap.

Sounds like it's the thermo switch on the outlet housing closes to the radiator by the top radiator hose. Change that it should fix it. Make sure you get the correct one and not the fan switch that goes on the inlet thermostat housing.

Ok, but what exactly is going on there. Do you think the car isn't really overheating?

Yes, the water pump seal is bad. Time for a new one; there's a DIY in the FAQ section on how to go about this and replacing the t-belt. Search, and you'll find it.

I'm actually in the middle of changing the water pump now. I'm afraid of this O ring that leaks. It'd suck if I replace the pump and its this ring. Where is it? And the pump was super rusty. Is there anythign else I should do to the system?

If the pump is super rusty I'd replace it. Odds are it's not the o-ring it's the pump that's failing.
