95 accord, hood won't pop open
I'm guessing its the hood latch cable, since the hood release lever has no tension. Question is, how do I get the hood open so I can make the repair?
my car does the same thing and i havent fixed it....you'll need an extra set of hands....whoever has the smaller hands needs to feel around for the cable at the front of the hood and put tension on it....then they other person needs to pull the lever and voila hood is open...
I think i can just unbolt the latch mechanism, might have to cut the grill a little bit but i think i can get it. Could i get a new cable from the junkyard or would I be better off buying a new one?
Just use a needle nose pliers to pull the hood latch open. You do this by using a needle nose pliers and get behind the hood latch and grab it by the cable wire and pull on it, this will pop the hood open. Done it many times at work.
I recommend you replace the hood cable as it has been stretch; hence, why there's no tension on it when you pull the hood latch lever.

I'll be picking one up from the junk yard tomorrow. Has anyone done this before and can give me some tips? I'm guessing just follow the cable so I know where to install the new one, but some pictures would be nice =D
Just get the right part. Even from the dealer I don't think it's too expensive. Chances are, the retainer that holds the sheath has come out of it's fork shaped mount. This keeps the cable from being able to pull on the mechanism.

Is this fixable? i'll probably go to the dealership tomorrow
Sweet.....not really, the local Honda dealer just called me and said my new cable was in so imma get that today. Does anyone know of a write up or can give me some advice on how to change the cable?
The cable is routed from the latch, through an opening above the headlight, between the inside of the drivers fender and unibody, passes through a hole in the body to a point around the drivers kick panel.
When replacing the cable don't just rip the old one out. Connect the old cable with the new cable so as you pull the old cable out, you are also pulling the new cable into place. Make sense? It's a pain in the *** if you don't use the old cable to pull the new cable through. Trying to route the new cable by itself is a pain.
