A lot of people will tell you that an intake is the most cost effective mod. You can also chip away at exhaust mods without spending huge money (although you get what you pay for).

Keep in mind that intake and exhaust parts function as a system, so to get proper gains you need to upgrade the entire intake/exhaust system. For example changing the exhaust or header alone may give only 2-3 hp each, but doing both together gives 10 hp.

Eventually you'll also need to spend $$ on a tune to really benefit from these mods.

How cost effective it is also depends on what engine you have. Obviously VTEC engines benefit a lot more than non-VTEC.

expanding on what he said, when buying exhaust components, remember to get the right size pipe or whatever. if you're going n/a there's no need for a 3" exhaust, 2.5" is the most you would need.

You're not going to get big gains on an LS with boltons unfortunately, but it's still fun to do and it helps you personalize your car.
