Does your radiator fan come on? What harness are you using?
I converted an F22 harness when I did my swap and didn't have the fan switch plugged into the front water neck, because my H22 didn't come with that sensor. I ended up swapping the F22 water neck with the sensor onto it and that did the trick.
I would get a CEL and VTEC would stop working after 20 minutes or so.

ya man my fan cuts on as it should. and this only happens very seldom. My best guess is the screen inside the soleniod. but if it was clogged shouldnt it not work all the time??
Not sure what a dirty solenoid would do, I haven't run into that problem yet.
How about your speedometer? Does that work all the time? If your VSS is going bad it may cut in and out.
I think the main things that determine VTEC engagement in the ECU are vehicle speed, engine speed, engine temp, oil pressure and ECU running mode, normal or limp.
If any of the sensors reporting to the ECU are malfunctioning, "VTEC don't kick in yo!"
