I have a question regarding my 98 Honda Civic. I am interested in getting roof racks for 98 Honda Civic LX. I was wondering if anybody who has done this could give me some insight into how this is done and even what type of racks would be compatible with my car. From what I understand cars used to have rain gutters that you could attach roof racks to. I am not sure if my car has them. I am thinking that if it does, they are probably hidden under the rubber strips that run from front to back on both sides of the civic. Thanks in advance for your help.

 

They attach to the rubber strip on your roof and the door jam with a clip nothing needs to be removed.
Why dont you just buy one and read the instruction manuel?
or if your buying it second hand just test fit it ?

all civic,integra,accord,legend etc. roof racks are interchangable with no modification

 

Yeah, they essentially clamp around the top of the door jam. It's really easy to install one, you just need the proper fit kit for it. Check out ebay and craigslist as they are like ~$600+ new for everything you might want. I pieced together a nice Thule rack for my bikes for like $280. Everyone I know who has had a Yakima has had something fly off there roof, so I don't know if I would recommend them, but I suppose I have a very limited sample.

 

I have a Saris roof rack and they are very easy to install. They are a lot cheaper since they don't make roof racks anymore. I bought them off on Craigslist.
