Hi Guys
I just purchased a 2003 Civic EX and the CEL light was on, when i got home I checked the CEL code and it was P159 Vtec System Malfunction.
I did the following:
Removed the solenoid to inspect the solenoid filter (it was as clean is it comes)
changed the oil pressure switch located on the vtec solenoid (with a dealer switch not aftermarket)
once i did this i pulled the ecu fuse to reset theCEL, started the car and in Neutral or Park once I rev the car it won’t pass 4k rpm. I drove the car for about 15-20 minutes with no problems, then CEL code came back and won’t pass 4k rpm.
What can it be I am going crazy with this

I have this exact same thing going on. Redlining at 4k RPM and now it is bogging down at 2k RPM so i'm thinking the Vtec solenoid is completely shot. Oil pressure is good engine temp is good.
Anyone have suggestions on where to purchase a new one other than the expensive dealer. Honda recommended a Spool Valve for $241 I saw Vtec solenoids on ebay for $75
