I replaced the oil pan and gasket on my 94 accord. I noticed that the gasket had broken in half in one place. I'm not sure if I over tightened it and that caused the break. How tight should I tighten it? Should I tighten it to where the gasket is being squeezed out the sides or is that too tight?

 

If you read a helms manual, it will give you the proper tq procedure + the tq ft.lbs rating.
If you over tighten the bolts, or don't tighten enough, it will leak.

 

You'll need to get yourself a torque wrench. Just don't buy the crappy one from Autozone. I learned that the hard way.

 

Do you know the specs on how much to tighten it? Or where can I find the info

if you run across any problems, run a search on "oil pan" in this forum and you'll find many threads discussing problems or issues people have had when doing this to their cars.

 

The torque spec is about 10 lbs, and it is done if memory serves me right in 3 stages and a sequence. You can find a down loadable Manuel for free online w/ a Google search.
