So many swap choices! ! ! ! !
Geeze!
There are so many choices when it comes to engine swaps, in a way I an overwelmed. The choices are sky high. I can get a new d16y6, build it up, and eventually turbo charge it. I can get a b16, integra ls engine, integra gsr, h22(doubtfully) I am so confused as what I should do.
I want a good engine that has power potential, good mpg, reliable, and wouldn't mind if it was in my budget. I have a 1995 civic ex. If anyone has experience with swaps into the same car as mine, or a similar civic, please post with suggestions on what i should get and what i should do to it. Also if you have a hybrid civic you can tell me the engine, car, mods and 1/4 time. I greatly appreciate everyone who participates in this forum.
Good day m8s

Power potential? Good MPG? Reliable? And Cheap?
B16A!!
Granted it is "torque-less", this engine is very under-rated IMO.
Potential to make huge power with the DOHC VTEC, great MPG (partly in thanks to the 1.6), obviosly reliable, and not nearly as expensive as the other B-series motors.
B18C1 is even better, but that = $$$. B18C5 is nuts, even more $$$.
H22A1 is a little crazy for what your looking for, at least I think...
And the Z6 just doesn't have the potential as the B-series. Granted a fully built D16Z6 with boost will haul mean ***, a build B16/18 will eat it alive every time.
Don't forget about the B18B Teg motor. Lower compression, so probably a better turbo motor. No VTEC changeover, and gobs of low-end, this motor is amazing.
Just don't try to build it N/A, and don't expect to run any crazy cam profiles if you expect to keep it streetable.
Good luck.
BTW: If I'm way off on something, let me know...

I suggest the B18C1 as well. A bit pricier, but if you can swing the swap now, perhaps you can build it as funds permit. Think you'll be happier in the long run.
If you've got the cash for a B18c1, and you want a powerful engine that you can keep relatively stock and go fast look into the H22... It really shouldn't cost that much more.

your best bet is a ls built block with vtec head ... those EX coupes are heavy, although b16a is nice it wont pull your car as good as a cheap ls/vtec ...
I've had a 5g EX before ... b16a is good, b20 is king and b16a turbo is NICE.

I did the whole gsr swap in my 93 ex and was pretty happy with it. With just i/h/e and some other mods i ran 15.2 my first try and eventually got it in the high 14s. I later put a b18b in my friends 94 hb and that made some good power too. I told him to turbo it but he didn't have the money and ended up selling it for a song. He ran high 15s(15.9) but had a sparse interior and i/h/e. Anymore all the swaps are way over priced i mean i got my whole gsr swap for 3k and that was like everything. This was like four years ago.
I installed a Greddy turbo kit on a friends 95ex, he hasen't taken to the strip yet but it feels just as strong as my 93ex with the gsr motor.
I also had a JRSC on my 93ex before the swap and i think i was running high 15s-low 16s, can't remember been too long and running to many hondas over the years. I also was running a 50shot with the JRSC, mad power but never took it to the strip. Put the swap in a week later.
I think with some tunning the Greddy turbo kit w/IC would kick some major ***. Say with a 50shot you would really rule your local streets.
Unless you can afford a b18c1 with some mods like i/h/e, i would look at a greddy kit. It made some great power, it was an easy install and is designed well but not perfect. And the mods for SOHC engines are increasing by the day. Looking back I probably would have just keep my SOHC engine and build it up. I mean its a good, strong engine and if you blow one so what. They are now a dime a dozen.
Sure a fully built b-series will kill a fully built d-series but i haven't seen to many fully build b-series on the road. I mean everyone has all these grand goals for their motors but few follow through. You already have a sohc motor, buy some parts and roll.
If you got any question just IM me!

stock ls bottom with gsr top end will get you mid to high 13's on slicks with good driving, i.e. 1.8 60' times, etc.
swap for 94+ LS/RS and GSR top end with nice header/intake/exhasut bolt ons with ls/vtec line kit will run about $4000 installed.

Oh yea.....whats the difference betweer rs and ls......and what about gs...is gs the same as gsr?
so yeah for $4K its not bad ... mods would be, ecu modification, jdm 4-1 header, valvetrain upgrade and type r camshafts with adjustable cam gears and some dyno tuning with a VAFC ...
if you were on the east coast in NJ or so I would have been able to help because I do this all the time.
good luck,
Greg

a good bang for the buck engine is the b20 too... any b-series swap gets expensive though cause you need a whole bunch of stuff to get it going.... building the d-series is prolly more cost effective in short term but long term go b-series. id say b18c then b20 then b16
If you lood around and check prices, you'll find that it's almost $1000 cheaper for an H22A motor than it is for a B18C1(gsr) motor. If you're putting this in a civic then that's the way to go. Whether you go all motor, turbo, or nitrous, this setup is fast as hell. My friend has an H22A in his civic coupe and with a completely stock motor it'll pull mid-high 13's/low 14's all day long. Put a turbo on that and go find a viper and kick it's ***.
hey guys. after reading all these posts i wud think either b20, b16 or the b18b.
b16- affordable..good potential. but now lowend power...NOTORQUE (nethin missin?)
b20- not too expensive..good low end power. (nethin missin?)
b18b- go wid vtec head and u'll b runin respectable times...heard its hard to maintain...good power, but lots of money.
leme know wut wud b good for 88-91crx. OR .88-91hb

I want it to be reliable enough to not break down and to get good mpg and yes its a daily car.........is h22 a good reliable engine......if i dropped one of those bad boys in could i keep a/c and power steering....i have founnd the complete h22 swap for 2,200$
and as far as goals......i wanna blow the ego of a few drivers at my school..........if i get a good *** engine like h22 i will do some races for money...until everyone finds out what i have......some kids at school keep talking **** about me not wanting to race them...he has a civic v tec like mine........he wants to race for 100$ he has exhaust intake and lowered....i will definitely kick his *** with an h22 same with the kid with a grand prix.....just wanna drive a fast car..and kick *** whikle at it
ME... well i dont wana spend too much, but i want a car that is realiable, good gas mileage and will prolly b a daily driver. As far as timez, im thinkin somewhere in the 14's or MAYBE even 13s... which way should i go...
