Icon6 My 1988 CR-X Si build

Where to start..... Oh yeah hey Honda-tech members its been a long time since i have been on here. Hope all your builds are going well, many blessings to you, your family's and your cars.

So now that i got that out of the way. Lets turn the hands of time back, it was around late 05-06 when i sold my 1989 Honda Civic Hatchback DX "Should have never sold that car" =(.

Here are some pictures of the hatchback

Ever since middle school i had my eye on the 88-91 Honda CR-X it did not matter what model it was. So i searched days after i sold my Hatchback on craiglist for another project. I found nothing that caught my eye, until one day after school i got on the net hopped on craigslist *BAM!* there was a 1988 CR-X Si for $600 bucks. But there was a issue * DUN DUN DUN!* the motor was blown *DOHC ZC*. But that didnt stop me i quickly emailed the guy told him that i was very intrested in the CR-X.

Here is a picture of the CR-X when it was on craigslist

He replied to my email he gave me his address and his phone number. So i set a day/time that would be best to meet up with him at his house. So that day finally came and i called a buddy of mine to give me a ride. He picked me up and we headed it only took about 15mins to reach the sellers location from my house called up the guy and told him we where out side.

I was stoked to check the CR-X out he took me on the side of his house. There it was sitting undercover the sun was starting to set and it was raining. But man the CR-X made me smile just by looking at it "Happens every time when i see a CR-X'. It had a full polyurethane Wings West body kit, 17inch black Konig wheels, shaved door handles, fiber carbon hood<--lol, And altezza's with the center rear light painted black to match the color of the car.

As we where looking at it, this young man with his dad pulled up. I totally forget the guy mentioned that some other people where interested in the CR-X and that they also where going to stop by and look at it. So basically the young man was very intrested in the CR-X also *he wanted it!*. So his dad ask if he is going to have to tow it home *Man oh man this guys is going to buy the CR-X!* He asked "So $600 is the lowest you will take?" the seller replied "yup". The dad basically making plans buy it right then and there.

*tick tock tick tock* Was going through my head when all this was happening. I had to step in i could not let the CR-X go to this young man, He wouldn't know how handle that 1988 CR-X. So told the seller " Ill Give you $650 " the young man's dad said ill give you " $700 " know that where in a bidding war "LOL" i said "ILL GIVE YOU $800" the seller looked at the dad and the he shook his head. YES VICTORY WAS MINE! lol the young man looked so sad, they turned around and headed towards there car to leave.

With a big grin on my face i had to barrow a $100bucks from my friend because i left all my cash at home thinking that i was just going to look at the CR-X. So i gave the hundred bucks to the seller and told him just to hold on too the car until i came back tomorrow with a dolly and the rest of the cash. He wrote me a bill of sale and me buddy got in his car and headed home. He also let me know that the car would not come with the rims. I told him i didn't care that he could keep the rims *17in wheels not my style*

So i finally got a dolly and someone to drive me there and pick it up. Gave him the rest of the cash and loaded the CR-X up. we finally got home dropped it off pushed it up my drive way and i could not stop staring and grinning at it because it was finally at my house.

The very next day i got up early to start looking at what all needed to be done to the CR-X. The interior was shot, all the parts where there but the dash, door panels, and center console where covered in clothe. Those where the first that i had to pull out, I stripped all the clothe off. I got some Goo off and this glue they put on with the fabric was not going to come off. So i tossed the Dash, panels center console and gauge cover out.

Here we go again back to craigslist. So i found a dash & center console for $100bucks picked it up and dropped in. Finally got around to the motor and my friend pulled it out. I gave him the motor for free minus the wiring harness and ecu *Hey he offered to pull it out for me if he could have the motor* why not it was not to any use to me .

Here is a picture of it still sitting in my driveway with no motor.

The CR-X sat there for months after that because i had no money to buy a swap. I towed the car over to my sisters house. She agreed to let me use her garage because she was not using it at the time. So i started tinkering with things here in the there the engine bay was just horrible they sprayed it with a can of liner. It was i pain to get off but i had nothing else better to do so i used a metal scrapper to remove all of it. Resprayed the engine bay and front wheel wells black.

Here is a picture of the CR-X sitting in the garage and me =P

One day me and my brother where driving down the main highway in his EM1 giving the car a little gas on the throttle. He decides to go from third to second *lol* dam thing wound up real quick lol you should have seen how fast he popped it of second ahhahahahah! i was very amazed he responded that quick. So anyways come to find out the car started acting funny and sounded like a Subaru. He knew something got messed up in the motor and after that his car sat in the driveway for a couple of months lol.

Here is a picture of his EM1

sorry its a shitty picture.

Sorry if i'am drifting off the story a little but it has to do with the CR-X

Anyways he purchased a Type-R motor for his car i asked him what he was going to do with his old motor. He said ill give it to you *Aww big brother love lol* so he finally got his motor in and i finally got mine. It was a Poor mans Type-R, GSR bottom end, B16 top end, GSR tranny. So i had a buddy of mine that helped me take a look at the motor, we looked over everything to see if anything on the outside was bad. We could not find anything that would lead us to the problem. We did a compression test on it rigged a wire to the starter and ground wire to the tranny. Also rigged in a push start button from the positive wire cable to a battery. It started cranking checking each cylinder and they all had low pressure.

We took the head off and pulled off four valves from one cylinder they where all bent. So know that we new what the problem was. i took the head to my local machine shop i had them do the repairs. When it was time to pick up the head my buddy that worked at the shop asked me " Did you know that the valves where on backwards". I looked at him and said "no" he replied "yeah your intake where on where the exhaust go and the exhaust where the intake go" i laughed gave him the cash and told him i would see him later.

So now that we could start putting back together the motor i ordered some ARP head studs new gasket kit and some high temp paint for the valve cover. I also ordered the Hasport Mount kit with the Hydro to cable conversion kit.

Here is a picture of the head great machine work!

So after a few hours of work a couple of beers we had the head finally on!

So after all that work we finally got the motor in.

Sorry for this shitty picture but i finally got the car home.

Anyways the body kit was a pain in the rear to line up *ended just being the same*. The fiber carbon hood was poop so i didnt need that anymore had cracks and bubbles *gave that away* and the fenders where shot. So i took the whole kit off and stored it away and found me a doner car.

better front end and moonroof? or is it sunroof XD

By this time i was bored with rocking just red front end and red moon roof or sunroof? lol

So i matched the paint up XD

so after all this is dont im driving down the road and i hear this *clink clink clink* from the engine it was banging on the rear t-mount *bottom bolt was not in* ripped a chunk out of my tranny *pulled the motor and off the machine shop*

fixed that put the tranny back ready to go!

pulled off my rear panel and there was holes with bando coming through, i sanded it down to see how bad it was and it was pretty bad. Iam a %100 percent sure it was a shotgun blow to the rear quater panel lol

so i decided hey why just fix all the body work and get out the way so this is how she sits know

I picked me up skunk2 rear control arms and some bucket seats ill keep you guys posted on updates

God i love projects back to square one XD
