Default cel confusion?!?!??!

ok... I have just had a jdm d15b swapped into my ef hatchback (89) and I am running into a problem. Unless I am reading this wrong my ecu is blinking 23 which is a knock sensor. Which does not make sense. because in my reading d15b or any d series engine doesn't have a knock sensor... right? Please help.

pr3 is a b16 ecu, which will be looking for a knock sensor. try using an ecu for a d-series engine, and one that doesn't look for a knock sensor.

You can also run a non vtec ecu like a 91 si ecu for example with a VAFC, or any other vtec controller.

Why not just add a knock sensor?

Adding a knock is not as easy as everyone will tell you concerning placement, depth and functionality. Any monkey can tap some threads at some random spot on the block. Getting the proper ecu or vtec controller would serve you better.

I somewhat agree with your concerns, but considering the application changes the whole thing.
The problem is a stock swap that basically just needs the code cleared for no CEL rather than a performance build that makes use of accurate knock detection.

Adding the KS really isn't anything new.
Look at the date on the posts... and people are still doing it this way.

I dont think tapping a knock so he can use a b16 ecu on a d15 is the right application. I would imagine his air/fuel mixture would be shot amongst other problems the ecu would be unable to compensate for. I think the motor would run better with a different ecu and a vtec controller. Not that hes going to be power sliding with a d15.. just for arguments sake.
