I have a stock 88 honda civic that wont start. I have replaced the distributor a couple of days ago, the fuel pump was replaced maybe 2 years ago, but the car sat for most of that time. I tried to pull codes from the ECU, but I get no blinks at all, not even the "hello" blink. I am guessing thats why the fuel pump doesnt "whirr" when you turn the ignition to the ON position. Any and all help is deeply appreciated.

 

have you check the fuses? Do you have a test id check the connection with a multimeter or atleast a test light

 

main relay, battery?

 

If your battery is dead then it won't blink the ecu, obviously. Or if your battery is good then your ECU is dead. Check your main relay too.

 

My car was "checked" at a shop recently, and was told that it was my distributor, so i changed it. Of course the same shop tried to rip me off by trying to charge me 900 dollars for a "free" check. Anyway, battery is new, and dont really have a way to check the main relay, and which fuses should I specifically check?

 

Swap to a known good Main relay. And check your grounds. Not much else left other than wiring and ecu

 

i had issues wit a ignition coil, weak spark will be a white color, good spark should be a bluish purple, replaced coil n ran great

 

does the dash light up at all? check all grounds.

 

i know your problem. let me guess, theres no spark right? you changed distributer and changed ecu and still nothing. i had the exact same problem but mine has a b18 in it. i thought it was my jumper harness cause i made it myself. WRONG! i went and bought a distributer cause i thought igniter went bad WRONG!!

ITS THE FUEL PUMP RELAY. FOR REALS. GET A GOOD FUEL PUMP RELAY AND IT'LL START RIGHT UP. AND IM NOT LYING! YOUR WELCOME SON. :D

 

My dashlights and everything else that requires power works, a/c, radio, headlights, etc.. I didnt change the ECU, its the original one.

 

I just checked the fuel pump and it isnt getting any voltage. According to my Haynes manual, I next need to check the main relay. Can someone educate me on what the book calls, jumper wires?

 

jumper wire is just a piece of wire that you supply.
For connectors, some people prefer using a paperclip.

 

I changed the main relay and she started right up. Didnt have to prime the engine or crank it over and over. One turn of the key and she roared to life. Not bad for an engine that hasnt turned in months. Thank you everyone for all of your advice and help.
