Hey guys I was wondering if anyone could help me? I bought a 91 si hatch and it came with a ls vtec swap. My question is is there a way to tell if the head is a type r head? I was told it is. It has a red type r vc an I looked in the oil cap an see dual valve springs. Any other help will be greatly appreciated!

look for a rear mounted thermo, intake mani, still could be a b16 head. The ITR and B16 heads are the same casting.

 

look for markings should say p73

 

Nothing on the head has P73 cast on it. It has P30 just like the normal B16 heads. If the head is fairly new (not likely) you will see green paint near the distributor.

 

Try this question in the hybrid forum or all-motor forum.

 

It's stamped pr3-3 which I kno even the b16 an type r has that stamped on it. I'm pretty sure I saw p73 stamped on the Im.

 

The intake manifold is not the head.

P30 is stamped on the head between the distributor and vtec solenoid. Right behind that stamp is the green paint. You can see the green paint in this pic...
