Default VW Mk1 GT Drag Project

Thought I'd share with everyone my wife's little drag project which we started on early last year, platform being a Mk1 GT chassis with a 2l 16V powerplant. Found a relatively good rolling chassis and sent it off for a proper cage and then for a respray to the panelbeaters. We went with the whole army theme, but the decals have changed since then and have since been removed.

Here we were planning to tilt the ABF motor forward. We're using huge Jenveys, and that meant we'd have to cut the bonnet. So we tilted the damn thing.

Tinted lexan fitted, as well as the carbon side mirrors, single Audi S3 handle, raised bonnet for cooling etc..

Interior odds and ends...

Engine is a special one, the head has 300deg cams and everything has been tinkered with. Bottom end has been balanced with a 100mm Eurospec crank, JE pistons, rods, 14:1 comp...

Jenveys!

H&R and Koni combination

Hydraulic handbrake...

Custom made aluminium fuel cell...

...mounted to the car.

Adjustable struts towers...

Huge *** cvs'...

Lightweight rear axle made from aluminium.

Checking for space...

Oil catch pans are required in South African drag racing rules.

Long manifold runners.

Check the MkV alternator!

52mm Jenveys!

Aeromotive takes care of the fuel.

Engine tilted, with Jenveys facing frontwards through the grille, and not out through the bonnet.

How low can one go?

4-into-1 exhaust system exiting through the fender

Weld Racing rims with M&H drag slicks, with skinnies for the rear. Now the sideshafts can finally be measured up and manufactured.

Finished! The car just needs a few adjustments like the new updated decals, corner weights and final dyno tune.

Ready for war!

Hows this for a fender?

Guages - check!

Lightweight Welds...

Brake drums drilled for weight loss...

Thanks for the help boys...

Off to Koni to do the corner weights

Our first event is happening this weekend. Obviously we'll have a few hiccups but we all have to start somewhere...Hope you enjoyed our build.
