Default Thin valve relief walls?

I've had this question for a while. And after lots of searching, I have yet to get a solid answer, so I figured I'd make a thread.

Anyhow, I'm running a set of 10.5:1 pistons on a B-series. And the walls on the intake valve reliefs have not been grinded/shaved off. Not to mention they look really thin and would break under ____whp.

Anyone have any experience with what kinda power level they would potentially break off? I'd imagine that would be why other piston companies have those walls notched out prior to distribution.

Is it power that breaks em? Or is it detonation? Or both?

Thanks HT.

If this helps.

Look at the intake valve relief walls.

Sorry I don't have a close up pic.

But lol 143 views? No one has heard/experienced anything? Lol.

I don't think they break due to det, if you feel unsafe about it just sand them down so they're not razor sharp, otherwise don't worry about it.

razor sharp edges is going to make for hotspots yeah, but you don't have to worry about them breaking at xxxwhp.

all pistons have those, is inevitible with the large valves we run....

read up on boundary layers and you'll understand there is no risk

Sweet guys, that's pretty much all I needed to know.

They just look real fragile I guess.

Thanks a bunch, I'm gonna feel quite a bit better about pushing this bish :D

Well.. looking at the block.. you will probably do more damage the stock sleeves in making XXX HP.. then those spots giving issues. If you are concerned about hotspots..why don't you take the pistons out and have the tops ceramic coated? Lack of Tuning and Timing will break more parts quicker than it failing from fatigue.
