Do I need to sand off all the clear coat?
I'm sanding right now. Clear coat is peeling, so areas like the hood, where there's only a few patches of clear left, I'm just sanding those all off.
What about an area like on my door, where the bottom half has all the clear, but it's peeling off of the top half. Do I need to take the clear off of the whole door, or can I just sand it so it blends between the half that has clear and the half that doesn't?
I know I can prep the clear and paint over it, but am I going to get two different colors if I paint over a door that has clear on half of it? Hope this makes sense, thanks.

I would recommend taking it all off because it is delaminating from the basecoat.
I wouldn't trust the new paint to hold together very long if the substrate is unstable.

Ok, what about this? I don't know if it will show up very well in the pics, but the clear coat is starting to peel off of the top of the door, but it looks fine on the rest of the door. If I sand it all off, that's a ton more work than if I just sand the top part. Should I still sand off all the clear?

Anyone? It seems like most of that clear coat is in good condition. I want to sand off the parts that are flaking off, and then sand the rest of the clear coat, just not all the way off. It seems like it would be ok to paint over that since it will be sealed and protected, but what do you guys think?
