Replaced ETC sensor, No results, Video of CEL, and more
My guage was acting up a little before it completely stopped working.
It would take a while to show normal temp even after car was warm for a while and if i drove on the highway at night the temp gauge would fall. The CEL comes on during the day after a little while of driving and My guess is that its because the fan wont turn on. If im driving at night when its cooler out the CEL doesnt come on, as if the fan were never told to turn on. I cant get codes because as soon as i turn the motor off the CEL goes away.
I went ahead and replaced the ETC sensor shown in the video which i think is the sensor that goes to the guage? yeh? I know there are 2 more i can try, one being the fan switch and IDK what the other one is.
There are disconnected wires right infront of the fan (those are not the wires connected to the fan) those disconnected wires come up from under the tranny, I cant remember seeing those wires there being disconnected until i got the car back 2 days ago from a mechanic that was replacing my clutch.
The guage had still slightly worked before I took it to him.
I dont think its the t-stat because i can get heat (not very hot tho), but maybe it could be?
Heres a vid of the CEL coming on, The ETC sensor i put in and the disconnected wires (that are not the same color, the yellow one and then there are 2 wires,), along with guessing that the 3rd ETC sensor is behing the motor?
Any advice is well appreciated.

The two wires are for reverse lights. How about you check what the cel is on for? Even though the light turns off the ecu saves the code in memory. You are just wasting money right now.
Oh, and the ect sensor is a two wire sensor and has nothing to do with your gauge.
The one wire coolant sending unit sensor beside the ect is the one that affects your guage cluster.
The two wire sensor behind the engine is the fan switch. That's what turns on the fan.
Plus, do you even have a thermostat in there right now?

Well that would make sense because when I put it in reverse the lights dont come on....
I'll go outside and try to get codes, I just thought because it was obd0 that it erased memory once the engine was turned off.
Could u possibly show a pic of the coolant sending unit sensor? do you think I need to replace it right?
And now that I think about it....Maybe I dont have a thermostat because I dont have A/C....
Sorry For how dumb I sound this is my first car, and just learning. never took shop classes in school or been friends with ppl who work on cars.

ok so I removed the carpet and the light was already blinking....2 longs blinks. 3 shorts blinks. which is knock sensor. hmmm.

Ok I found the Gauge sensor in the back and one of the two wires was disconnected. Now I'm stuck on the Knock sensor. WoW lol. Thanks for all the input, I might as well kkeep yall updated. haha
@hybridmiklo: I recently by passed my heater hose because of a tiny leak and that same day my temperture guage stopped working and it would stay dead cold, even after periods of driving. My question is do you think it would be as you said, the one wire coolant sending unit sensor? That's the one that sends it to the guage, correct?
check to see if your motor has a knock sensor if it does run the one wire to the ecu i assume you have a bseries?
There is no knock sensor. part of the reason why I couldnt find it. LOL. So then I;m just gonna be getting this code all the time.
Does the d15b2 have a knock sensor? Because i have a similar problem where my temp gauge stays cold, but it doesn't throw a cel. Help please?
