crx suspension question
Hey whats up, new to this whole board here, got directed here by a friend and was looking for a little info. Ive currently got an 89 crx, running skunk2 springs\tokico blue shocks. The ride is terrible and im not too pleased with it, figured it was time to get some better suspension finally. Ive heard nothing but good things about the ground control\koni combo from numerous people posting on this forum. With this setup im not too sure about the spring rates, and from what ive read its sleeved or something? I need to learn some more about suspension and alot of other stuff, was hoping i could get some feedback on this. Im looking for something thats more aggressive than stock, but with a decent ride.
With the Koni's you can actually adjust the shock so that it can ride a little smoother or straight up bumpy, although even on the smooth setting its still a bit bumpy haha, but thats race suspension for you. Also depends on the spring rate for the eibach springs, the higher you order, the bumpier itll get. Ive had the Koni/GC combo on my eg hatch and i was not dissapointed, gonna get it on my rex when i get the cash
Koni/GC is a nice low budget setup. If you can afford a little more I would go with a full coilover. Even if you fall on the lower end of the spectrum. You could run a tanabe or a tien for just a little bit more. If you can really afford it you can bump up to something nicer like a higher end tien or KS. There are ton of different companies to choose from. I would recommened the tanabe for best bang for the buck. Great ride after break in period.
thanks for the replys. Yea i was looking at getting a suspension combo. i was interested in the suspension combos that ive seen all over the marketplace. would any of you recommend a good place to give my business to?
ive seen http://www.weaksauceparts.com/store/...roductid=18820 on the marketplace, and a place called redshiftmotorsports that sold something similiar. From what ive read with people that had this setup on a crx(with alot of different spring rates) seem to be happy with this setup. Ive had my crx for about 10 years and im getting ready to dump some cash into it instead of buying a new car. Gonna be doing a swap, but i wanna kinda start with the ground up before getting ahead of myself. Thanks for the help, most of my friends are into fords and what not, and I dont know many honda heads.

Haha im right there with you, everyone seems to be taking the v8/6 route for some easy hp/torque, and building it ground up is definitely the best way to go, I usually order all my parts from Nolimitmotorsport.com, never had any problems with them.

I have a question probably stupid but I want to get rid of all doubts in my head. If I convert my crx to type-r 5lug will I have to use type-r suspension or crx si suspension? Pls lmk Im not 100% sure! Thanx!

Talk to Marcus if he is around. He is very knowledgable and a really nice guy. He can run down some great options and price points if he is not busy.

The ride is way to harsh and stiff, ive got the tokico blue shocks, they are non-adjustables. I am leaning towards getting http://www.ground-control-store.com/.../II=681/CA=167
Mostly good feedback from what ive read on this setup. I was thinking about doing control arms and camber kits too. anything else that is recommended I change? i saw mention of bushings and balljoints should i replace these as well?

i wonder if the tokicos are ok. its pretty strange that you think that a progressive spring setup is harsh.
i've ridden in an ef with a koni GC setup, and while i think its the best bang for your buck out there for performance ride, and for autox, any kind of performance driving, I don't know if I would consider that for getting a less harsh ride.
see if the tokicos are leaking oil. i don't know if its even possible to mix it up, but make sure that the correct spring is up front vs rear.
check to see if they cut the bump stops. you could just be riding on the bump stops, a quick search said that the skunks can lower up to 2.5" which is quite a bit for an off the shelf shock with an off the shelf bump stop to handle. i am leaning towards this being your problem.
