Ive seen the threads where people have swapped hydro gears and diffs into their cable case with some grinding. I was wondering if I can use the gearset from my J1 in a hydro case?

 

The only Cable transmission that has interchangeability with Hydro transmissions is the YS-1 Transmission. The S-1/Y-1/A-1/J-1 gear stacks and final drive sets are not interchangeable with the Hydro Transmissions.

 

Awe hell that sucks. I've been running a J1 cable trans for years and the gearing is pretty good for my NA set up. I am doing a hydro conversion since the transmissions are easier to find and im tired of fighting the cable. I was hoping to scavange some gears out of it and add some from another transmission to get it just right. Any advice would be helpful.

I have been running a welded diff for quite some time and I like the way it hooks but hate the way it srives. I have a phantom grip lsd laying around I was wondering what it would act like.

 

Yeah it does suck! Go with a YS-1 cable trans if you can...then you can easily use Hydro internals.

 

Im converting the car to a complete hydro set up so what im wanting is a good ratio tranny that is hydro.

 

ITR or CTR..excellent gear ratio with a factory LSD! Later model ITR have a 4.78 Final Drive ratio(early model and CTR came with 4.40 Final Drive ratio). If you cant source one then a 99-00 Civic Si/DOHC Del Sol Vtec has the same gear ratio but no LSD. Then you can upgrade to an aftermarket LSD. If you cant find those..then a GSR would be next.
